The Winter, 2026 anime season is officially here with the announcement that one of my most-anticipated anime of the year — the fantasy action adventure Sentenced to Be a Hero — will premiere tomorrow, January 3rd, 2026.
Not only that, but we will get the original Japanese version of Sentenced to Be a Hero releasing at the exact same time as its English dub, with both dropping on Crunchyroll internationally.
And yep, Episode 1 will be 58 minutes in length. Yay!
Considering we have been waiting for the dark fantasy anime for quite a while now, ever since its initial October, 2025 premiere was postponed until January, 2026, it is nice to see the series dropping just a couple of days into January now, isn’t it?
Sentenced to Be a Hero English dub cast announced
The full English dub cast for Sentenced to Be a Hero has also been confirmed, with its main voice cast looking like this:
- David Matranga plays Xylo
- Emi Lo voices Teoritta
- Joshua Waters is Dotta
- Dawn M. Bennett voices Kivia
- Jessie James Grelle plays Venetim
- Nicholas Huber is Rajit
- Jim Foronda plays Priest
- Naya Moreno as Siena
- Ethan Gallardo voices Zofflec

Japanese production staff for Sentenced to Be a Hero
The original Japanese anime series is being directed by Hiroyuki Takashima (Mushoku Tensei), with Kenta Ihara (Blue Miburo) in charge of series composition, and Takeru Noda (character designer for Dandadan) designing the characters.
Studio KAI (7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy!) is animating.
Plot-wise, we’re looking at something cool like this:
The fantasy anime’s plot follows Zylo Folbartz, a former Holy Knight Commander, and a penal colony prisoner who is forced to become a “hero” and fight against the Demon King Phenomenon.
The punishment is eternal, as they are not allowed to die, but are resurrected over and over and over again.
As he and his comrades are about to be defeated, however, he meets “Sword Goddess” Theolitta and, after forging a pact with her, vows to fight alongside her in order to become strong enough to defeat the Demon King and become a true hero.
Yep – it’s in my Top 3 most-anticipated anime of Winter, 2026. I’ll let you know if it was worth the wait after tomorrow on our X account.
