Dark Gathering, Season 2 Yayo visual sets the mood nicely, doesn’t it?
It has been what seems like several eons since Season 1 of the popular occult horror anime series Dark Gathering ended (December 25th, 2023 to be exact) but, finally, we now have confirmation Dark Gathering, Season 2 is in production.
Welcome news indeed, as the first season was one of the most popular horror anime of recent years
That second season confirmation arrived today via the official Dark Gathering X account.
That account also released a typically creepy key visual of protagonist and child medium Yayoi Houzuki with her hallmark plushie that very nicely set the mood for what we can expect when the occult-themed anime’s next season arrives.

Director and main cast reprising roles for Dark Gathering, Season 2
Director Hiroshi Ikethata, animation company Studio OLM and the main cast were also confirmed as returning for Season 2, although no mention was made of a schedule for its release.
Returning cast so far includes husky-voiced Yu Sasahara as Yayoi Hozuki, the wonderful Nobunaga Shimazaki who is back voicing Keitaro Gentoga, best girl Kana Hanazawa returning as Eiko Hozuki, and Rina Kawaguchi who continues beautifully voicing destined to die Ai Kamiyo.
More cast members will be announced as more information is released.
What can you expect in Season 2 of Dark Gathering?
Dark Gathering, Season 1 comprised 25 episodes that came with a solid script, a perfect-for-the-genre art style, and decent animation, so let’s hope we get that kind of satisfying story telling from Season 2 as well.
It also did a nice job of animating most of the first nine volumes of the manga.
Although, with 18 volumes currently out, and mangaka Kenichi Kondo publishing three more volumes per year on average, there is plenty of material to cover in Season 2.
Sure, the first season of the anime sometimes concentrated on the humor more than the horror, which some fans looking forward to a scary series found annoying but, if you have read the manga (which I guarantee is scarier than the anime), you will know the next arcs are a fair bit more terrifying than arcs in the first season.
That’s likely to mean more real scares and far fewer laughs, with Season 2 more satisfying for true horror fans because of it.
Keep an eye out for more hints about that as new promo pieces for Dark Gathering, Season 2 drop. But I would say the creepy new Yayoi key visual is already giving you a heads up about that, wouldn’t you?
