A Star Brighter than the Sun gets trailer, key visual, premiere date, cast announcement

School-themed romance anime A Star Brighter than the Sun (aka Taiyou yori mo Mabushii Hoshi) finally has a premiere date.
That date — October 2nd, 2025 — was announced via the official A Star Brighter than the Sun X account today, along with a teaser trailer and a key visual.
Four new cast members were also named. They are:
- Hina Youmiya (Anna Yamada in The Dangers in My Heart) who is voicing Hisui Onodera
- Taito Ban (Amane in The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten) plays Youta Ayukawa
- Mutsumi Tamura (Kobayashi in Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid) voices Mio Kagawa
- Ryouta Oosaka (Sadao in The Devil is a Part-Timer) plays Yuushin Izawa
They are all featured on the new A Star Brighter than the Sun key visual, which dropped today, with the main characters from left to right — Yuushin Izawa, Hisui Onodera, Kouki Kamishiro, Sae Iwata, Youta Ayukawa and Mio Kagawa.

The latest A Star Brighter than the Sun trailer, which came out this week, concentrates on main protagonists Sae and Koki, as Sae contemplates telling Koki that she’s in love with him.
And, apparently has been since they were both in elementary school together. Although it’s only just now that she has figured it out.
It also features a snippet of the anime’s opening theme song ‘Stellar Days‘, which is performed by Motohiro Hata.
A Star Brighter than the Sun production details
The upcoming romance anime is based on the manga of the same name by Kazune Kawahara.
The manga has an English language translation that is being published by VIZ Media, with two volumes already out, and Volume 3 on pre-order and due to publish on September 2nd.
They describe the manga’s plot in this way:
Sae and Koki have been friends since childhood. One fateful day at the end of middle school, she has a revelation: Koki has grown up! Now they’re in high school, and she has another revelation: she has feelings for Koki! But Sae isn’t the only girl who does…
The question is, while he has told people there is a girl he likes, who does Koki have feelings for?!
The manga’s anime adaptation is being directed by Sayaka Kobayashi (Mayonaka Punch episode director), with Yasuhiro Nakanishi (No Longer Allowed in Another World) in charge of scripts and series composition, and Jinfeng Zeng designing the characters.
Studio KAI (Super Cub) is in charge of animation.
Enjoy the slew of information that dropped today and, although it’s likely we will be getting more promo material in the next couple of months, look out for the anime itself premiering on October 2nd.
