Anime streaming service HIDIVE has just announced the comedy fantasy anime Dungeon People will be streaming exclusively on their platform this summer.
The announcement follows the release of a cute Dungeon People trailer a few days ago showing protagonist Clay setting off into the dungeon to look for her father who has been missing for three years, only to meet the dungeon’s administrator Belle.
Before Clay knows it, she has been recruited to work for Belle.
What is Dungeon People?
The upcoming fantasy anime is based on the manga Dungeon no Naka no Hito by Sui Hutami.
The manga has been serialized on the Web Comic Action website since June, 2020, and also has 4 published volumes out in Japan.
Seven Seas Entertainment is publishing Dungeon People in English, with three volumes out so far and the fourth one due in September.
They explain the plot in this way:
An unexplored dungeon, filled with monsters and traps. An expert thief, searching for her lost father. When Clay delves into the dungeon deeper than any adventurer has ever gone, she is offered a job by the dungeon’s caretaker!
Now, instead of exploring, Clay must learn how to interview new monsters, set traps and position slimes around the dungeon. Will this new career path bring her any closer to finding her father?
The Dungeon People anime is being directed by Sayaka Yamai — something I am thrilled about as he also directed one of my all-time favorite anime Life with an Ordinary Guy who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout.
Toshimitsu Takeuchi (Life with an Ordinary Guy… so, yep, thrilled) is in charge of series composition, while Hiromi Nakayama (Odd Taxi) is designing the characters.
Studio OLM (The Apothecary Diaries) is in charge of anime production.
The first episode of Dungeon People will air in Japan on July 5th, with HIDIVE streaming it soon after during their Summer, 2024 season.
