Sword of the Demon Hunter anime delayed until next year
It appears, after announcing the ongoing yuri anime Whisper Me a Love Song will be delayed for at least two weeks earlier in the week, Yokohama Animation Lab is still experiencing production problems.
If they weren’t, they would not have just announced the planned premiere of their new historical fantasy anime Kijin Gentoushou (aka Sword of the Demon Hunter) will be delayed from its original release date some time in July, 2024 to a new premiere date some time in 2025.
Yep, that is a long delay.
As is usual with Japanese animation studios, no reason was given for the Kijin Gentoushou delay, just a short statement on the anime’s official website saying this:
The TV anime Kijin Gentoushou, which was scheduled to begin broadcasting in July, 2024, has been postponed due to production delays.
It is scheduled to be broadcast domestically for two consecutive seasons in 2025. Details will be announced as soon as they are decided.
We sincerely apologize to everyone who was looking forward to the release of the anime for the inconvenience and concern this may have caused. We will do our best to deliver the anime in the best possible form.
We appreciate your understanding.
What is the fantasy anime Sword of the Demon Hunter?
Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho is based on a supernatural historical fantasy light novel series written by Moto’o Nakanishi and illustrated by Tamaki.
The series has 14 volumes out in Japanese, with Seven Seas Entertainment publishing the light novel in English (5 volumes out, Volume 6 coming in August), and an excellent manga spin-off (4 volumes out, Volume 5 coming in September).
Seven Seas explains the novel/manga plot like this:
Edo period, Japan. A young warrior, Jinta, has dedicated his life to the protection of a priestess in a remote mountain village. When demons appear and threaten the shrine, Jinta is tasked with entering the forest to hunt them down.
But the mysteries he uncovers there change his fate forever, and send him on a journey traversing space and time. Jinta’s dark destiny will carry him through hundreds of years of history, as he struggles to answer a single question: why does he wield the sword?
So then, some sad and frustrating news about Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho today.
