A full recap of Kaiju No. 8, Episode 6
The episode, which is titled “Sagamihara Neutralization Operation At Daybreak”, begins with Mina Ashiro asking Okonogi for a status report on the Sagamihara location.
Okonogi updates her on the evacuation process, the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) movements, and the developments concerning the Honju and Yoju kaiju.
Okonogi tells her the Honju is continuing to grow larger, and it is accompanied by a large number of Yoju.
Mina discusses with Hoshina the strategy to defeat the Honju at Sector Bravo to prevent further conflict. She vows to take down the Honju herself and assigns the sniper team to handle the threats along Highway 16.
Meanwhile, Kafka and his team are briefed by Hoshina about their first official kaiju hunting mission. Their job is to make sure none of the Yoju escape.
They then arrive at Sector E, where Kafka is amazed by the sheer size of the Honju.
As the operation unfolds, Reno Ichikawa impresses his rival Iharu with his strategic thinking, while Kikoru Shinomiya showcases her exceptional combat skills by defeating most of the Yoju by herself.
Meanwhile, Kafka gets too far out in front of the rest of the group and gets slammed into a pile of garbage bags by a kaiju.
Ichikawa, though, is working the hardest he possibly can as he doesn’t want Kafka to have to transform and then be discovered by the Defense Force.
The recruits’ performance impresses the veteran troops, who feel like they’re losing their self-confidence as the new recruits are so good.
Nakanoshima, the leader of Sector J, praises the recruits’ efforts.
Kafka, feeling like he isn’t helping his team, locates a defeated Yoju’s core and relays crucial information to Hoshina about its core and reproductive organs. He also suggests tactics the officers can use to prevent the Yoju from spawning more offspring.
Hoshina acknowledges Kafka’s great work, and orders the control room to pass this information on to all the other units.
Mina then takes down the enormous Honju with three precise shots from her massive weapon, while Kafka watches in amazement at her power.
As she is firing, Hoshina tells Kafka over the communication system, “Watch this one closely”, and then follows it up with “That’s the power of the person you’re trying to stand beside”
Hoshina then demonstrates his close-range combat skills by swiftly slaying a Yoju, and tells Kafka he comes from a long line of kaiju hunters. That’s why his skills are so good.
Now, however, the real problem begins as thousands of Yoju suddenly emerge from the body of the dead Honju and start rushing towards the Defense Force officers.
As the team stars killing Yoju, we then hear Hoshina talking to the control room saying that, while Kikoru is the only one of the new recruits to become so powerful she will likely become a captain, there may be one more recruit that will make it as well — Reno Ichikawa.
The episode ends with Ichikawa and his rival Iharu running off to an area where more Yoju have appeared, but they get there only to be faced with the intelligent kaiju, now in human form, examining the body of a dead Yoju and complaining “it’s no good” as the reproductive organs have been destroyed.
