Season 3 of The Apothecary Diaries announced as a two-cour anime series
Sadly, while, yes, I was correct that the previously announced new The Apothecary Diaries release is a third season (well, come on, why wouldn’t it be?), the somewhat bad news is that it is coming out in two cours.
AND the first cour isn’t scheduled to drop until October, 2026, with cour 2 hitting in April, 2027.
In other words, a full year before Season 3 of The Apothecary Diaries kicks off at all, and more than a year and a half before it ends. Yikes!
If you’ve read the light novel series, you will know the next season covers (in my opinion) even more interesting material than the first two, as the relationship between hot boy Jinshi and the wonderful Maomao (remember that fabulous slap!) deepens further, and as the political intrigue begins to ramp up.
We’ll have to wait a while though to see how that all transpires.
What’s the age gap between Jinshi and Maomao, anyway?
The Apothecary Diaries X account has also released what they call a ‘Super Teaser Visual’ of Maomao, and say is “hinting at a new trial for Maomao”.

Full-length The Apothecary Diaries anime film releasing in 2026
But, along with that, there is also even more excellent news as an anime film featuring an all-new story written by author Natsu Hyuuga is due to release in theaters in Japan (at least) in December, 2026.
No word yet on when (or where) we will get that in the west but, likely, on Crunchyroll.
Yep, again, still aways away, but much to look forward to then, eh? Plus, it does make sense when you know that why the next segment of the anime is taking a while.

2nd Anniversary Commemorative Video drops
If you’re struggling to remember what happened in the first two seasons of The Apothecary Diaries (well, it has been two years since the first season began!), TOHO Animation has also released a ‘2nd Anniversary Commemorative Video’ giving us a reminder of what has transpired in the historical mystery anime so far.
They have been nice enough to include decent English subtitles, and it includes all the bangin’ theme songs the anime has featured so far.
I, for one, am amazed, just from the few scenes in the video, at being reminded how much the anime holds up to being a thoroughly rewatchable series — again and again and again. (Seen it four times already, and not done yet).
Watch The Apothecary Diaries 2nd Anniversary Commemorative Video, and take a note of the additional information they’ve included about Season 3.
Psyched doesn’t even begin to describe my reaction to all of this wonderful news. How about you?
