Superb K-pop manga Girl Crush should make a banger of an anime
With three volumes of the K-pop themed Japanese manga Girl Crush out in English via VIZ Media, fans of the series will be ecstatic to learn an anime adaptation is also now on the way.
That announcement was made via the manga’s official X account along with a cute visual of protagonist Tenka Momose drawn by mangaka Midori Tayama, and a short celebratory video.
And let me just say, if you have not had the good fortune of reading Girl Crush yet, holy hell, are you in for a surprise when the anime eventually drops.
As, whether you are a fan of K-pop, or just love an anime about the relationships that occur between girls — good and bad –, if this anime adaptation is done properly, it could be one of the best ever created.

Girl Crush details
As the upcoming anime goes, the only information we have about Girl Crush at the moment is that it’s on its way, as the studio announcement, director, voice cast etc will be dropping at a later date.
The anime itself will be based on the hit Girl Crush manga series, which is stunningly written and illustrated by Midori Tayama.
That manga currently has eight volumes out in Japanese, with VIZ Media already publishing three volumes in English, and Volume 4 due to release in December.
The original Japanese manga describes the Girl Crush plot like this:
“The ideal cool girl will be on stage…”
Tenka Momose, a first-year high school student. She has excellent grades, stunning looks, and even takes center position in the dance club despite being a freshman. Tenka’s enviable girl crush (a cool girl that other girls admire) began in elementary school. Rumors spread in class about her mother’s affair and her disappearance with the man she was dating, leaving Tenka alone.
Then, her classmate, Harumi Minato, approached her. Harumi, a popular boy, treated Tenka with a friendly attitude, regardless of her family background. Tenka was drawn to his kindness, and gradually began to like him. From then on, she worked hard at everything, from studying to club activities, and by middle school, she was popular.
By her first year in high school, Tenka had now grown up to be perfect, but she was shy when it came to love, and was unable to confess her feelings to Harumi.
In the present day, as a high school student and a member of the dance club, and with the school festival approaching, Tenka heads to the rooftop with her club mates to practice. On the way, she meets the plain and unremarkable Erian Satou.
Erian is obsessed with K-Pop and even works part-time in Shin-Okubo. Her favorite idol group is Bright Rose. Inspired by Bright Rose’s Riona, she has taught herself singing and dancing and is planning to study abroad in Korea in order to become a K-Pop idol herself.
Harumi also works at the same place, and seeing the two of them getting along makes Tenka jealous, so she asks Erian to go to karaoke with her and Harumi. Once there, Erian starts singing a Bright Rose song, but…
but, honestly, until you have read the superb manga series you cannot understand from just this synopsis how wonderfully-written are the characters, how complicated their relationships become with each other, and how incredibly well the world of K-pop is explored.
Look out for more information releasing about the Girl Crush anime adaptation soon. But I’m telling you now, keep an eye on this one, as it has the potential to be an absolute banger.
