Sweet news has just dropped for rom-com fans!
Upcoming comedy romance anime “The Salty Koharu Has a Soft Spot for Me” is officially turning up the heat with a brand-new character trailer, its first key visual, a batch of fresh cast announcements, and confirmation of an October, 2026 premiere.
The light novel series written by Kazami Sawatari (with illustrations by Achiki) has been winning hearts with its classic “icy exterior, gooey center” dynamic, and the anime adaptation is shaping up to deliver all the fluffy feels we crave.
The Premise of “The Salty Koharu Has a Soft Spot for Me” in a Nutshell
High schooler Sōta Oshio crosses paths with Koharu Satō, the girl everyone calls the “Salt-God” because of her famously cold, no-nonsense attitude that keeps most people at arm’s length.
But Sōta gets to see a completely different side of her. One that’s shy, clumsy, and incredibly sweet. Think secret smiles, awkward moments at the café, and that special kind of chemistry where one person’s presence makes all the difference.
It’s a warm, coming-of-age rom-com that balances the salty-sweet contrast perfectly.

What’s New About the Anime This Time?
On June 26, the official channels dropped a character trailer that gives us our first proper look at just about the whole cast in action.
It’s the kind of PV that teases personalities, dynamics, and that signature “only sweet for you” energy without spoiling too much. Exactly what we needed to get even more hyped.
Alongside it came the first key visual, which beautifully captures the series’ vibe (think soft lighting, expressive character moments, and that perfect blend of everyday school life with heart-fluttering potential).
The New Cast Additions
The core duo was already locked in, but the supporting cast just got a major upgrade:
Miyu Tomita as Rinka Sudō (Koharu’s younger cousin — middle school third-year energy incoming!)
Chiaki Kobayashi as Ren Misono (Sōta’s best friend and classmate)
Yoshino Aoyama as Shizuku Misono (Ren’s older sister, college student)
Hisako Kanemoto as Mayo Nezu (Shizuku’s college friend)
Yasunori Matsumoto as Seizaemon Oshio (Sōta’s dad and café owner)
Yuki Wakai as Madoka Murasaki (a high school second-year from a seaside town)
These additions promise to flesh out the world with family ties, friendships, and new layers of comedy and heart.
The main cast, of course, remains:
Hiiro Ishibashi as Sōta Oshio
Miku Itō as Koharu Satō
The Creative Team for “The Salty Koharu Has a Soft Spot for Me”
Tezuka Productions is handling the animation. Fumihiro Yoshimura (known for My Wife Has No Emotion) is directing, Takashi Aoshima is on series composition, while Daisuke Okushima is handling character designs, and Shun Narita (The Unwanted Undead Adventurer) is composing the music. It’s a solid lineup that should bring both the humor and the tenderness of the source material to life.
With the October 2026 broadcast window now locked in, the wait suddenly feels a lot more manageable, doesn’t it?
The character trailer and key visual have already started circulating, and the new voices are bringing even more personality to what’s shaping up to be one of the coziest rom-coms of the season.
Whether you’re here for the classic “she’s only nice to him” trope done right, the café vibes, or just the promise of genuinely sweet character moments, this one looks like it’s going to deliver in spades.
Mark your calendars for October — the salt is about to get a whole lot sweeter.
And, of course, stay tuned here at Baozi Buns for more updates as we get closer to the premiere!
