Ojisan wa Kawaii Mono ga Osuki manga gets anime adaptation – comedy slice-of-life is so cute

Comedy slice-of-life manga series Ojisan wa Kawaii Mono ga Osuki (aka The Middle-Aged Man Loves Cute Things) is getting an anime adaptation.
The Middle-Aged Man Loves Cute Things anime series was announced today via the manga’s official X account.
It will be animated by Liden Films (animators of May I Ask for One Final Thing?), and is scheduled to premiere in 2026. An official website has already launched.
We are still waiting for staff and cast to be announced at a later date.
And yep, Liden Films is certainly busy this year, as they’ve just announced they’re also animating mystery series Killed Again, Mr. Detective?!
Ojisan wa Kawaii Mono ga Osuki manga
The upcoming anime is based on the hit manga Ojisan wa Kawaii Mono ga Osuki, which currently has 11 volumes out in Japanese. Its latest volume came out in February this year.
It also spawned a 5-episode J-drama called Pops Loves Kawaii Stuff, which aired in 2020 and starred Hidekazu Mashima.
And I will tell you I have read the first two volumes of the manga, and watched all five episodes of Pops Loves Kawaii Stuff.
And, yep, if you have a hobby you worry about sharing with others because you’re supposedly “too old for it”, you think your work colleagues would judge you if they found out about it, or any number of things that prevent you talking about something you love, you will adore both the manga and the J-drama.
And, of course, the upcoming comedy anime.
The plot of The Middle-Aged Man Loves Cute Things
While things can always change when it comes to the plot of an anime, it is likely to be very closely based on the original manga’s plot, which is explained in the premiere volume of the Japanese manga like this:
The handsome and capable Section Chief Koji has a secret. He has a weakness for “cute characters”! But he can’t tell his subordinates about it…!
This “secretly cute old man” comedy depicts the daily struggles of a man who secretly cherishes all things cute. What does the future hold for Section Chief Koji?

I can confidently say, though, if you loved anime like the brilliant Mr. Villain’s Day Off or the equally funny My New Boss is Goofy as much as I did, you should keep an eye out for this one.
