Draw This, Then Die! teaser trailer drops – director named, anime to premiere in 2026

Upcoming comedy anime Draw This, Then Die! (aka Kore Kaite Shine) has just dropped a teaser trailer, announced its director and a premiere date (kind of).
And yep, this one is one of those I am looking forward to as it’s a rare manga-themed anime series and, considering the just-released A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace is such a disappointment (it features an unwatchable-annoying protagonist), I am holding out hope this one will be much better.
As for the details released about Draw This, Then Die! today, they are still currently minimal but we do now know the anime’s director is Hiroaki Akagi (Teasing Master Takagi-san).
He will be heading up the series at animation studio Shin-Ei Animation (With You and the Rain).
We also now know Draw This, Then Die! is currently scheduled for a 2026 premiere. Although a month has not yet been announced.
The new Draw This, Then Die! teaser trailer is also short on details, but it does show the anime’s art style — which is really quite beautiful — and gives us a look at protagonist and aspiring mangaka Ai Yasumi (who is adorably cute!).
Draw This, Then Die! plot and manga details
The anime is adapted from the manga series written and illustrated by Minoru Toyoda.
The manga has seven volumes out in Japan, with its 8th volume being released on October 8th. An English-language translation has not yet been licensed.
As for the Draw This, Then Die! plot, according to the first volume of the Japanese manga, it looks like this:
Ai Yasumi, a manga-loving first-year high school student living on Izu Ōshima, an island off the coast of Honshu, Japan.
Upon learning that her idol, manga artist Hoshi no Rei-sensei, who has been on hiatus for many years, will be exhibiting at COMITIA, she decides to travel to Tokyo. But an unexpected encounter at the COMITIA venue changes Ai’s life! And she soon finds herself asking “How can one become a manga artist?”
The world of manga creation is one that seems familiar, yet is unknown. This is the story of a girl who steps onto the “path of manga” that leads into that world.
