School-themed romance anime A Star Brighter than the Sun has just released its first trailer, along with naming its main voice cast and staff, and a cute visual featuring protagonists Koki and Sae.
The upcoming anime, which follows two childhood friends who suddenly find their relationship changing, and just had that slew of new information released via its X account, also got a premiere date — October, 2025.
The main members of the A Star Brighter than the Sun voice cast announced are Minori Fujidera (Himari in Himitsu no AiPri) who is voicing Sae Iwata, and Yuuki Ono (Jirou Ogasaraw in Sasaki and Miyano) who plays Koki Kamishiro.
As for the trailer, it does a great job of setting up the anime’s plot kicking off with scenes of Koki and Sae when they were friends in elementary school, before it switches to the present day with the two in high school.
Sae is the person whose voice we can hear as she wonders if it’s okay for her to fall in love with her friend, and asks herself what she should do because of it.
To add to the cute feel of this anime, the second A Star Brighter than the Sun visual just released is a really lovely snapshot of Koki and Sae in the classroom, both looking a bit bashful, as he laughs and she watches him.
A Star Brighter than the Sun production details
The upcoming anime series is based on the popular manga series written and illustrated by Kazune Kawahara (My Love Story!!).
The manga has 11 volumes out in Japanese (Volume 11 was published today), and one out in English via Viz Media. Volume 2 will hit in June.
The original first volume of the Japanese manga describes the plot of A Star Brighter than the Sun like this:

A sparkling first-love story! Iwata Sae is a girl who’s tougher than most. She had a crush on Kamishiro Koki, a boy she used to protect because he was frail, but now that he’s grown taller and become popular, he feels out of reach.
Then, during their last sports festival in middle school, they end up paired together—will her first love finally begin to move forward…?
The manga’s anime adaptation is being directed by Sayaka Kobayashi (episode director of Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway), with Yasuhiro Nakanishi (My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999) in charge of scripts and series composition, and Jinfeng Zeng designing the characters.
Studio Kai (Super Cub) is animating.
