Cool Boys’ Love manga ‘Senpai, This Can’t Be Love!’ out in English – here’s the plot

New Boys’ Love manga Senpai, This Can’t Be Love! written and illustrated by Shinta Harekawa is getting an English translation (yeah, I’ve read the dodgy “fan translated” one, and it’s fabulous, which makes the legal publication a must grab for me).
Senpai, This Can’t Be Love! (titled Danjite Koi de wa! in Japan) was serialized on the yaoi manga site Comic Fleur in 2019, with its follow-up story Senpai, This Can’t Be Love! Brush Up coming out after that.
Every chapter was then published in Japanese in three tankōbon volumes by Kadokawa.
That was followed by a Boys’ Love voice drama based on the story, and an 8-episode live-action TV drama, (which you can watch on Viki for free).
Yeah, this BL story is great, which is why it has been so popular!
And also why, in January this year, Yen Press finally announced they would be publishing Senpai, This Can’t Be Love! in English, with that publication, in both print and digital, due out in June.
What is the Senpai, This Can’t Be Love! plot?
Yen Press explains the plot like this:
Friendly, confident, amazing at his job…All words applicable to veteran CG designer Yanase who was asked to teach the hardworking new hire, Kaneda, the ropes! Although excited about the prospect, he begins to lose heart in the face of Kaneda’s frosty indifference.
However, on the inside, Kaneda’s been struggling to play it cool whenever Yanase so much as pats him on the back…
The 196-page Volume 1 of Senpai This Can’t Be Love! is due out on June 18th via Yen Press, with an age rating of 18+ M (Mature).
