The upcoming TV anime adaptation of Ichijoma Mankitsu Gurashi! has unveiled its first teaser trailer, offering fans an early look at the cozy yet chaotic manga café dormitory that serves as the series’ unique setting.
Alongside the trailer, new preview images and character details were revealed, building anticipation ahead of the anime’s scheduled April 2026 debut.
A first look inside the Hedgehog manga café
The newly released teaser trailer introduces viewers to the heart of the story: the manga café “Hedgehog,” a small but lively establishment that doubles as both a workplace and dormitory for its student residents.
The cute and funny preview highlights the daily routines and quirky personalities of the girls who live there, capturing the relaxed slice-of-life tone and comedic energy that define the series.
The teaser emphasizes moments of friendship, humor, and the occasional awkward adjustment to shared living.
Early footage focuses on protagonist Meiko Morita as she navigates her unexpected new life, surrounded by colorful dormmates and stacks of manga lining the café’s walls.
A story of student life in an unconventional dorm
Based on the manga by Kumako Hisama, Ichijoma Mankitsu Gurashi! follows Meiko Morita, a country girl who transfers to a prestigious girls’ academy in Tokyo.
In exchange for free tuition, she agrees to perform volunteer work, but soon discovers that her assigned “dormitory” is actually a manga café where she must live and work alongside other student employees.
The Hedgehog café is home to a variety of memorable residents, including its composed dorm manager Rie Amamiya, popular streamer Marika Suzuki, and skilled gamer Neo Nakano.
Together, the group balances school responsibilities, part-time work, and the challenges of living in close quarters, creating a mix of comedy, friendship, and everyday struggles.
Originally serialized in Manga Time Kirara in 2018, the manga has gained popularity for its lighthearted tone and charming ensemble cast.
And yes, it’s somewhat ecchi, but it still looks adorably cute.

Experienced staff brings the manga café comedy to life
The anime adaptation is being produced by animation studio PRA. (Tasokare Hotel), with Toshinori Watanabe (Twilight Out of Focus) serving as director.
Character designs are handled by Fumiya Uehara (9: Ruler’s Crown), with Tatsuya Takahashi (Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon) in charge of series composition and scripts, while music is composed by MONACA, a group known for its work on numerous anime soundtracks.
Teasing the tone ahead of the premiere
The teaser trailer gives fans a preview of the anime’s visual style and atmosphere, emphasizing expressive character animation and a warm, somewhat pastel aesthetic.
It also highlights Meiko’s transition from rural life to the fast-paced environment of Tokyo, offering a glimpse of both her nervous uncertainty and the friendships she begins to form.
The tagline and visuals reinforce the central premise: what Meiko expected to be a traditional student dorm instead becomes a cramped manga café filled with eccentric but welcoming companions.
Looking ahead to April 2026
With its first teaser trailer now released, Ichijoma Mankitsu Gurashi! is positioning itself as one of the upcoming season’s most charming slice-of-life anime series.
Something I love, and am always thrilled about when another cute girls doing cute things anime series is added to my must watch list, aren’t you?
As additional trailers and cast announcements arrive in the next couple of months, we should also be able to look forward to stepping inside the Hedgehog café and experiencing Meiko’s unconventional dorm life even more.
We’ll keep you updated.
