The new fantasy anime The Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows has a new visual out featuring protagonist Carmilla — the wraith who lives on the second floor.
The accompanying Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows visual was released via the anime’s official X account, and was drawn by mangaka Sakaku Hishikawa.
It shows Carmilla in the dead of night looking longingly out of the window at the sky. Because, remember, a wraith is usually confined to the place they are haunting.
Along with that visual, we also got a short voice drama video called ‘Carmilla’s Long Night‘. (listen below)
Carmilla talks about how her life has changed since Zenos and Lily arrived
The Brilliant Healer‘s voice drama features voice actress Youko Hikasa as Carmilla talking about how much she loves the night, “just as much as a fish loves water, or a baby loves being in its mother’s arms”, and that’s because, for the undead, the night is where they can get some rest.
She is then startled by Zenos, but soon begins to reminisce about how much things have changed since he and Lily opened up the underground clinic in the house she haunts and, yes, she enjoys her new “life” immensely.
After all, before they came, she had nothing but silence.
Nowadays though, she gets to see interesting medical cases, enjoys the smell and the taste of the tea Lily brews, and the patients as they come and go.
That is why, unlike before when Carmilla used to dread the arrival of the morning, now she looks forward to the hustle, bustle and noise it brings.
And now, it is the nights that seem so long.

The Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows details
The anime is based on the Japanese light novel series written by Sakaku Hishikawa, and illustrated by Denpuougi. (Title in Japanese — 瞬で治療していたのに役立たずと追放された天才治癒師、闇ヒーラーとして楽しく生きる).
The series has eight volumes out in Japanese, and five out in digital versions in English via J-Novel Club. They will also begin publishing print versions from August, 2025.
The recently-premiered fantasy anime adaptation is animated by studio Makaria (Zatsu Tabi: That’s Journey), and directed by Jou Yoshizaki (Kiyoneko).
Light novel artist Denpuougi is both Chief Animation Director and character designer, while Taika Miyagi is in charge of series composition.
As for The Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows story, the original Japanese novel series gives an extremely detailed plot:
Xenos, a genius healer who tirelessly honed his skills for his comrades, instantly healed even the slightest injuries of his party members while simultaneously casting protective and enhancement magic to minimize their wounds. Yet, his ungrateful companions unjustly expelled him from the party, refusing to acknowledge his contributions.
But it is then that Xenos encounters a severely wounded elf slave girl named Lily in the city and saves her life—
“I’m… alive? I was sure I was going to die…”
“Hahaha, this? Just a scratch.”
“…Amazing!”This fateful meeting leads Xenos to open an unlicensed underground healing clinic.
Word soon spreads about his unparalleled skills—helping the weak while charging exorbitant fees from the powerful—until even the royal palace takes notice!
Meanwhile, without Xenos, his former party is left battered and broken.
But even if they begged him to return now, he’s made it a rule to charge high fees from those he dislikes… so, can you guys even afford it?

While it certainly isn’t a masterpiece, as fantasy anime go, it features a cute harem, pretty character designs, a lovely art style and decent animation. The plot too is fun.
Update: We also just got a cute visual for Royal Guard’s Vice-Commander Krishna along with her voice drama followed by another one for Lily, our favorite elf.
