Train to the End of the World OP and ED get creditless animations –which song is more popular?

Michelle Topham April 5, 2024

Both Train to the End of the World OP and ED are bangers

Episode 1 of the new EMT Squared anime Train to the End of the World (aka Shuumatsu Train Doko e Iku?) streamed on Crunchyroll on Monday.

While the anime’s first episode was way too fast-paced and more than a little weird (interestingly weird so far, though), its art style is gorgeous, the characters are quirky, and the voice actors are excellent.

Throw in that both the Train to the End of the World opening theme song and ending theme song are bangers, and this one so far is a most definitely “continue to watch” for me.

The Train to the End opening and ending animations

Those Train to the End of the World opening and ending themes, by the way, are featured in the anime’s creditless opening and ending animations just released on the KADOKAWA anime YouTube channel earlier today.

Both animations are nicely done but, while the opening anime’s animation gives us a more stylized look at the events of the show so far, its ending animation focuses mainly on a more atmospheric never-ending unlit train track the girls are traveling.

Something we may just be seeing in future episodes, as the girls continue their strange journey in a post-apocalyptic world.

‘GA-TAN GO-TON‘ vs ‘Eureka‘, which is more popular?

As for the songs, while I have a preference for the anime’s incredibly catchy OP — ‘GA-TAN GO-TON‘ by singer Rei Nakashima — so far at least, the Train to the End of the World ED — Japanese music project Rokudenashi’s ‘Eureka’ — has its charms as well.

Interestingly, however, at first look the reverse seems to be true for most other fans as the ‘GA-TAN GO-TON‘ video currently has 6,310 plays versus ‘Eureka‘s 7,820 plays on YouTube.

On Spotify, the difference is even more marked, with ‘GA-TAN GO-TON‘ only earning 1,726 streams so far since its release on April 2nd, while ‘Eureka’ has 36,122 streams.

But, when you look closer at how many monthly listeners each artist has on Spotify — Rokudenashi’s 2,232,566 versus Rei Nakashima’s 2,209 listeners, I’d say Rei is doing pretty well comparatively, wouldn’t you?

Where to listen to Train to the End of the World’s OP and ED

Nice too, both songs also got official releases earlier this week.

Something that is unusual for anime theme songs even nowadays, as they are often still released several weeks after an anime premieres.

Listen to both the anime’s OP and ED in the Train to the End of the World opening and ending creditless animations below.

You can also hear the full versions of both bangin’ tracks via Spotify below them.

The anime itself, which for its art style and weirdness alone is worth a watch, is now streaming.
