Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You trailer/main key visual – Sasaki and Tayama bond over cigarettes

Probably my most-anticipated anime of 2026, Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You has dropped its main trailer and key visual as the series itself premieres in July, 2026.
The romance anime’s latest trailer, and its main key visual, do a great job of showing off the atmosphere between salaryman Sasaki and supermarket cashier Tamaya (aka Yamada), as the pair start to smoke behind the supermarket together while they bullsh*t about life.

The anime’s new trailer kicks off from when Sasaki is smoking outside the supermarket and is beckoned to by Tamaya (aka cashier Yamada), as she tells him he isn’t allowed to smoke there.
But, if he follows her, he can smoke with her in her own little private place.
Of course, Sasaki is soon smoking behind the supermarket with Tamaya every night on his way home from work as an unlikely friendship, and possibly more (?), begins to develop.
Even while Sasaki, who is in love with the upbeat and always smiling cashier Yamada, finds the darker, more sardonic Tamaya, equally intriguing. If not also pretty unsettling.
Yep, in just over a minute, the new Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You trailer does a brilliant job in giving us a bird’s eye view into Sasaki and Tamaya’s strange relationship. A relationship that will soon blossom into more than just friends.
As for the anime’s main voice actors, Takuya Satou (Rick in The Ossan Newbie Adventurer) voices Sasaki, while Seena Hoshiki (Riamu in Eternity Memories) does a brilliant job playing Tayama and her alter-ego Yamada
We also hear a snippet of Imase’s ending theme song ‘Fiction‘, while Japanese rock band Zutomayo will perform the anime’s as-yet untitled OP.
Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You production details
The adult romance anime is being co-directed by Masato Suzuki (Gushing Over Magical Girls) and Aoi Mori (Episode Director of Gushing Over Magical Girls), with Mio Inoue (My Awkward Senpai) in charge of series composition, and Tomoka Otaki (A Galaxy Next Door) designing the characters.
Asahi Production (Pass the Monster Meat, Milady!) is animating the series.
The anime is adapted from Jinushi’s popular manga series of the same name, which is currently being published in English by Square Enix, and with its seventh volume coming out in July.
Square Enix describes the Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You plot in this way:
At age forty-five, office worker Sasaki has had enough of the corporate grind. His only solace is smoking-and the friendly smile of supermarket cashier Yamada. When Sasaki can’t find Yamada after a particularly trying day, a striking woman invites him to smoke with her.
The despondent man thinks he’s made a new smoking buddy in the cool, teasing Tayama, but Sasaki doesn’t realize he already knows her!
