I honestly never thought I would be writing these words.
For over five long years, we waited. We theorized. We re-watched Asta scream his lungs out during the Royal Knights Arc more times than is probably healthy (me six times!).
But today, June 15th, 2026, the nightmare drought is officially over. I can finally say it out loud: Black Clover, Season 2 is real, and it’s coming this October.
I was sitting at my desk, coffee in hand, when the news broke across the official franchise channels that, yep, we finally have a premiere date.
According to multiple confirmations from Studio Pierrot and TV Tokyo, our favorite magic-less hero will return to the small screen as part of the Fall, 2026 anime schedule.
The original series ran for a staggering 170 episodes between 2017 and 2021, but it had to stop. The anime caught up to Yuki Tabata’s manga far too quickly, leaving us hanging after the devil-shaking events of the Spade Kingdom arc.
Now that the manga has wrapped up its story this spring, the coast is finally clear for a faithful adaptation. And I’m all in for it, aren’t you?

A Familiar Hand Takes the Helm
There was a moment of panic when I first saw the headline about a “new director.” Change is scary, especially when you love a show’s specific energy. But after reading the details, that anxiety turned into genuine hype.
After all, it’s Ayataka Tanemura who is stepping up as the new director for Season 2.
However, calling him “new” feels wrong.
This isn’t an outsider coming in to shake things up randomly. Because Tanemura isn’t just the guy who directed the fantastic 2023 Netflix film, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King. He was also deeply involved in the original series, specifically directing the crucial episodes 153 through 170.

He knows these characters. He directed the climax of the first season. To me, this is the absolute best-case scenario. It’s continuity with a fresh burst of creative energy.
In a statement released alongside the announcement, Tanemura also shared an illustration of Asta and gave us a message that got my blood pumping:
“I’m directing again! Asta and the others are coming back after a long time!
We’re working beyond our limits to show them an even more powerful version of themselves! Please support Asta and the others as they embark on their new adventures!!”.

What We Know About Black Clover, Season 2 So Far
So, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty specifics for my fellow Magic Knights:
Premiere Window: October, 2026 (Exact date TBA)
Streaming: TBA
Broadcast: TV Tokyo and its affiliates
Studio: Studio Pierrot (returning to handle production)
# of Episodes: Still to be announced
As for the staff lineup, it looks incredibly solid, although, sadly, not featuring all the same folks as Season 1. But that’s to be expected after a more than 5 year wait.
Keiichirou Oochi (I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class) is on board to oversee the scripts, ensuring the narrative pacing stays tight.
On the visual side, Itsuko Takeda is back as character designer, with Kumiko Tokunaga in charge of sub character designs. Minako Seki will return to compose the music, which, I have to admit, is a huge relief to me because the soundtrack for this series has always been top-tier.
An Early Look at Black Clover, Season 2 at Anime Expo in July
If you happen to be in Los Angeles this July, you are infinitely luckier than I am.
That’s because the team just announced that Episode 1 of Season 2 will have its world premiere at Anime Expo 2026.

Mark your calendars for July 4th then as Asta’s legendary voice actor, Gakuto Kajiwara, will also be in attendance alongside Director Tanemura for a special panel at the Peacock Theater.
To be in the room when that first episode drops after half a decade? That’s going to be an electric atmosphere, isn’t it?

The Road to the Witch’s Forest
So, what are we actually going to see in October?
According to the production briefs, Season 2 will pick up right where we left off. Without diving into heavy manga spoilers for the anime-only fans, the story is shifting focus toward the Witch’s Forest.
The Black Bulls are heading into dangerous, mystical territory. The last time we saw our heroes, Asta was dealing with a pretty nasty curse on his arms after his brutal fights with the Eye of the Midnight Sun.

It looks like the squad is searching for a cure, but knowing this series, “searching for medicine” is going to turn into a full-blown war against ancient magic and new, terrifying enemies.
We are also likely going to see the further evolution of Asta’s Anti-Magic. The movie gave us a taste of what Studio Pierrot can do with a bigger budget and modern techniques; if Season 2 looks half as good as Sword of the Wizard King, we are in for a visual feast then, right?
Final Thoughts
Waiting for Black Clover, Season 2 from 2021 to 2026 has been a test of more patience than I was aware I had. There were times I even wondered if the anime was just going to fade away, leaving the manga to finish in silence.
But the resurgence of interest, the success of the movie, and the conclusion of Tabata’s original work created the perfect storm.
And sure, while October still feels like an eternity away, for the first time in half a decade, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The Black Bulls are coming back.
I’ll see you all at the premiere when it does finally happen. Well, I’ll be streaming it from my couch as, probably, will most of you. Until then, stay surpassing your limits, and I’ll be back as more updates drop.
