Yoona’s ‘Bon Appétit, Your Majesty’ Ep 1 kicks off with best ratings for tvN Sat/Sun drama this year

While the just-premiered K-drama Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, Episode 1 could not beat the also just-premiered Twelve in the ratings last night (which earned superb ratings last night), it did still kick off the series with the best ratings for a tvN Saturday/Sunday drama this year so far.
The Yoona-headed drama was also the #1 show in its time slot on Saturday night.
According to the data via Nielsen Korea, Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, Episode 1 earned 4.85 percent nationwide, and an even higher 5.10 percent from viewers in Seoul.
The 12-episode Korean drama stars Lim Yoon Ah (aka Yoona), who did such a wonderful job in King the Land.
The 35-year-old actress appears alongside the main cast of Lee Chae Min (Crash Course in Romance), Kang Han Na (Frankly Speaking), and Choi Gwi Hwa (Squid Game).
It follows Korean chef Yeon Ji Yeong (played by Yoona) who, after becoming one of the most well-known French cuisine chefs in South Korea, goes back in time to the Joseon period.
After being discovered in a forest by the king (Lee Chae Min), who almost kills her, she ends up cooking for him.
But he is a man who is known for being both a terrible tyrant and a gourmand — in other words, incredibly picky about what he eats.
International ratings for Bon Appétit, Your Majesty
As Korean dramas go, Bon Appétit, Your Majesty has a more unique plot than most.
That, however, can be a good or bad thing when it comes to ratings, as some K-drama fans prefer watching the same type of rehashed plot over and over again, while others welcome something different.
In the case of Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, on one Asian drama-focused website at least, that has meant it has earned only average ratings with an 8.0 out of 10 from almost 500 viewers so far.
Considering the Asian drama-focused website has a huge problem with trolls downrating dramas after their first episode has aired, though, that likely means its ratings will increase as more episodes drop and trolls move on to destroying another drama’s ratings.
On IMDB, the K-drama is currently rated a more reputable 8.6 out of 10. Although from less than 100 viewers.
In other words, as I often warn, it’s always better to watch an Asian drama yourself.
Or wait until ratings are out for dramas that have released at least six episodes, as you will get a fairer idea of if it’s worth watching.
