You may know Hangzhou-based Chinese animation studio Wawayu Animation as being the company that animated Cinderella Chef (aka Meng Qi Shi Shen) as, with three seasons out, that has been one of their most popular properties to date.
That donghua, however, is just one of a number of very successful IPs Wawayu Animation has animated, as the studio heads towards its 20th anniversary.
Wawayu Animation history
Founded in 2007, and based in Hangzhou, China, Wawayu Animation also has offices in Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, and Tianjin.
It employs more than 200 people, and creates over 1,500 minutes of animated content every year.
The studio itself describes its business model like this:
The company has a comprehensive business scope, with seven subsidiaries responsible for various types of animation-related projects, including animation, comics, and films.
The team is technologically advanced, with expertise in 2D, 3D, and “3D to 2D” technologies. Its production management is mature, with an experienced team and a self-developed, full-process production management system.
The company’s operations are stable, and it has been profitable, receiving multiple rounds of investment from firms such as Youge Capital, Yuewen Group, and Bilibili.
Most of what western audiences will be familiar with include series like Cinderella Chef and Heibai Wushang (aka The Unparalleled Black and White).
