C-drama climbs another 1,000 points on heat index in 24 hours
After hitting 7,500 on the YOUKU heat index yesterday on its first day of release, YOUKU is now reporting the Chinese drama Unveil: Jadewind has already climbed to 8,500 on its second day today.
Something that would have surprised me if I had just gone by the comments from a fair number of international C-drama viewers yesterday. Many of whom were expressing disappointment in the Unveil: Jadewind plot (calling it “boring”), as well as in the supposed lack of chemistry between the two leads Bai Lu and Wang Xing Yue.
But then I watched Episodes 1 and 2 of the new historical mystery thriller on Netflix last night, and was blown away by just how stunning the Chinese drama has turned out to be.
Especially on a huge flat screen TV. (I’m currently visiting my parents, who can afford a bigger TV than me!)

Why Unveil: Jadewind is a must watch
Luxurious cinematography that explodes off the screen as it caresses the gorgeously vibrant reds, golds and yellow hues, and the stunning sets and costumes that appear throughout.
A plot that, from the beginning, is almost horrifically fascinating as we see a princess on her wedding day dying in a strangely ignited fire, while people around her try to save her but cannot.
And a story that then rushes off at breakneck speed.
Superb chemistry between Bai Lu and Wang Xing Yue (where are these people who say the pair have no chemistry looking?), and stellar performances from every actor around them as well.
So much so, after reading the comments, I went into this one thinking I would watch the first episode just so I knew what I was writing about and then drop it but, instead, became quickly and crazily obsessed.

Unveil: Jadewind is earning its 8,500 heat index rating
In other words, believe the 8,500 on the heat index earned from Chinese viewers who are obviously enjoying this one as much as I am, and ignore the people complaining about Unveil: Jadewind’s first few episodes.
People who, I am convinced, are likely annoyed because, at the moment at least, there is no sign of romance in the C-drama between the two leads.
And, if potential romance isn’t immediately present in the first few minutes of almost every Chinese drama, this segment of the viewership will immediately dismiss it as “boring”.
Believe me, in this case, Unveil: Jadewind is anything but.
In fact, I would even possibly use the too-often-overused word ‘epic’. It’s really that good.
The first six episodes of Unveil: Jadewind are now streaming on Netflix and YOUKU, with new episodes dropping daily. Give it a shot but, frankly, I doubt you will be disappointed.
