Are you surprised that under 24 hours after Unveil: Jadewind premiered, and the C-drama has already exceeded 7,500 on the YOUKU heat index?
I’m not although, I have read comments from a slew of international viewers and, surprisingly, the Chinese drama is not being enjoyed by a large percentage of people currently watching it.
So, whether the drama will continue to motor up the YOUKU heat index in China or die here, has yet to be determined.
It will all depend on if Chinese viewers are as disappointed with the initial episodes as many international viewers seem to be.
YOUKU did promote Unveil: Jadewind hitting 7,500 on the heat index this morning though, along with a new visual featuring leads Bai Lu, Wang Xing, Zhao Qing and Zhao Yi Qin. (above)
International ratings for Unveil: Jadewind so far
As I write this, the Chinese drama only has three episodes out, plus Episode 4 as a TVOD via YOUKU, but it’s already getting a sizeable number of viewers calling it “boring” or “weirdly paced”.
Something that is definitely unexpected as Unveil: Jadewind was one of the most-awaited Chinese dramas of 2026, primarily due to the pairing of Bai Lu and Wing Xing Yue who, of course, starred in Story of Kunning Palace and One and Only together.
Comments on My Drama List range from:
I don’t know if it’s just me but the pacing seems off and the background effects are getting a lil jarring.
while another commented:
Am I the only one who feels that Bai Lu and Wing Xing Yue’s chemistry from their past dramas suddenly vanished here??????? I mean everyone wanted them to pair up again because they had great chemistry even if they did not end up together. I don’t know, it felt so off in first 4 episodes here.
and a third person said:
The first four episodes didn’t impress me. Visually this drama, is stunning, but the premise and story are not unique or interesting. I solved the first case in episode two, because it was so obvious. I have seen this same exact case in another drama. My sole wish is that the next cases are more interesting and surprise us.
And I also hope there’ll be some chemistry between the leads (I’m not talking romantically). As a pair, they give me nothing at the moment. I don’t know if it’s because they have a similar cold disposition or because all of their interactions have come off as bland.
In fact, even the viewers who are more positive about the drama are hinting they are not yet ‘all in’, and will be giving it a few more episodes before they decide if it is a watch or a drop.
Over on IMDB, things look even worse as Unveil: Jadewind is currently earning an abysmal 4.2 out of 10.
Granted, that rating is only from the average ratings of seven people so far, and IMDB does have a troll problem but, still, it is cause for concern.
The first three episodes of Unveil: Jadewind are now streaming on both YOUKU and Netflix, with Episode 4 on YOUKU as a TVOD, and two more episodes dropping tomorrow.
Let’s see how it performs from here then, eh? Although, at least the Chinese have made sure it kicked off with a solid heat index ranking. So there’s that.
Meanwhile, all I can say is, after watching Episode 1, the cinematography, sets and costumes are utterly gorgeous and, with the plot being very fast-paced, there hasn’t been much time to get bored so far, has there?
In other words, I too will see where this goes but, right now at least, I am leaning towards enjoying this one immensely.
