Deliver me a fantasy isekai anime with fun characters and an interesting plot, and I am as happy as a pig in sh*t.
Yep, I’m one of those annoying people who fanboys for just about every isekai anime ever released, and I’m fine with that.
That’s why my ears perked up when the upcoming EMT Squared-animated series The Failed Sage’s Academy Domination (aka From Overshadowed to Overpowered: Second Reincarnation of a Talentless Sage) was announced back in February.
And, this week, why I’m even happier than that aforementioned pig as a new The Failed Sage’s Academy Domination trailer has just dropped, and it’s all I expected it to be.
And more.
The Failed Sage’s Academy Domination trailer released as additional cast members announced
The anime’s new trailer was announced at an AnimeJapan 2026 stage event this weekend, with additional cast members also confirmed and named.
Those new cast members are:
Hiroki Touchi (Karvada in Isekai Office Worker) who voices Ephtal (Sage/Old Man)
Ayaka Fukuhara (Mayumi in Food for the Soul) who plays Ephtal (Childhood)
Emiri Katou (Becky in Spy x Family) who is Ilya
Daisuke Hirakawa (Ishino in Scum of the Brave) voices Fraser
A graphic of each actor, along with their character, was also dropped yesterday.

As for the just-released The Failed Sage’s Academy Domination, it shows young Ephtal who, as an elderly failed sage, has died and been reincarnated as a child in his world, but 400 years in the future.
The interesting thing is, while Ephtal’s powers were strong in his original era, they are out of this world in his new one as magic is currently dying there.
Yep, even as a child, as you will see in the trailer, Ephtal is more powerful than anyone has ever seen.
The Failed Sage’s Academy Domination production details
Hisashi Ishii (Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear) is directing the anime, with Deko Akao (Welcome to the Outcast’s Restaurant!) in charge of series composition, and Hideki Furukawa (Strike the Blood III) as character designer.
EMT Squared (The Unaware Atelier Meister) is animating the series.
The anime is based on the novel series written by Shiraishi, and its manga adaptation by Kentarou.
The series is currently scheduled to air on Tokyo MX, ABC TV, BS Fuji, and WOWOW in Japan in July 2026. We will keep you updated here at Baozi Buns as more information drops.
