How many The Seven Deadly Sins episodes are there and how many movies?

With the fifth season of The Seven Deadly Sins anime kicking off earlier this year on Netflix, I thought it might be a good idea to look back on the previous seasons to see how many episodes there are in the long-running anime series.

Especially if you haven’t yet started watching any of them.

While the number of The Seven Deadly Sins episodes will likely change if more seasons of the hit anime series are released, at the moment there are a set number of episodes in the four seasons already out, as well as 24 episodes planned of the fifth season that premiered on October 8th, 2023 (October 7th Japanese time).

Throw in the “one-episode” films that have been released and, if you are planning on watching The Seven Deadly Sins anime series for the first time, you are in for a huge number of hours of viewing.

Viewing I am currently now doing for a third time, (hence this article) as it is one of my favorite shōnen anime ever created.

So, how many The Seven Deadly Sins episodes are there?

Well, not as many as my other favorite shōnen series — Black Clover series. Yet.

How many The Seven Deadly Sins episodes are there as of May, 2024?

There are currently four seasons of The Seven Deadly Sins out, as well as a special (Signs of Holy War), and three films (the last one in two parts so, technically, four films).

(Special note: Some people, including Netflix, insist there are five seasons out already, and a sixth just premiered, as they count the 4-episode special Signs of Holy War as a “season”. It’s not.)

Be aware the animation in the series gets progressively worse, after the first two seasons and the special were superbly animated by A-1 Pictures, but then the third season was passed on to Studio Deen.

That being said, if you are a fan of the franchise, you really need to watch everything that has been released so far as, even with the poorer quality animation and art style, the later properties still add something important to the story.

So, here are the number of episodes of The Seven Deadly Sins you can expect to watch.

If you see everything released so far.

The Seven Deadly Sins, Season 1 (24 episodes)

The first season features 24 episodes, and aired from October 5th, 2014 to March 29th, 2015.

It kicks off with the episode titled ‘Nanatsu no Taizai’ (aka The Seven Deadly Sins in English), and ends with Episode 24 ‘Eiyū-tachi‘ or The Heroes.

The Seven Deadly Sins — OVA (2 episodes)

This is a special 2-episode series that came with the manga’s 15th and 16th volumes, but you can still find them online.

The first episode is called ‘Bandetto Ban‘ aka Bandit Ban, while the second episode is ‘Eiyū-tachi no Tawamure: Bangai-henshū‘ or Heroes Fun Time: Extra Stories Compilation.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Signs of Holy War — (4 episodes)

This is a 4-episode special, which begins with Episode 1 ‘Kuroki Yume no Hajimari‘ aka The Dark Dream Begins, and ends with the fourth episode titled ‘Ai no Katachi‘ aka The Shape of Love.

The Seven Deadly Sins, Season 2 — Revival of The Commandments (24 episodes)

The second season of the anime features 24 episodes, and begins with ‘Majin-zoku Fukkatsu‘ aka ‘Revival of the Demon Clan‘, and ends with ‘Kimi ga Iru Dake de’ or As Long as You are Here.

The Seven Deadly Sins, Season 3 –  Imperial Wrath of The Gods (24 episodes)

The third season was animated by Studio Deen, and saw a severe drop in animation and art quality because of it.

It is still a very entertaining season though, as it still features all our favorite characters, and a fast-paced, packed-full-of-action plot.

Season 3 begins with Episode 1 titled ‘Yami wo Harau Hikari‘ or The Light That Sweeps Away The Darkness, and ends with Episode 24 titled ‘Bōsō suru Ai‘ or Rampaging Love.

The Seven Deadly Sins, Season 4 – Dragon’s Judgement (24 episodes)

Season 4 of the hit anime begins with the first episode titled ‘Rengoku Yori‘ aka From Purgatory, and ends with the last episode titled ‘Tsugare Yuku Mono‘ or Heirs.

The Seven Deadly Sins, Season 5 – Four Knights of the Apocalypse (24 episodes)

The fifth season of The Seven Deadly Sins premiered on October 8th, 2023 and ended on March 31st, 2024.

It began with Episode 1, ‘Shōnen wa Tabidatsu‘ aka ‘The Boy’s Departure‘, and ended with Episode 24 ‘Kōrin‘ aka ‘Advent‘.

And that brings us to the answer to the question “How many The Seven Deadly Sins episodes are there?”

The total number of The Seven Deadly Sins anime series is 24 +4 +24 + 24+24+24 = 124 official episodes, plus 2 special with the manga-only episodes, for a total of 126.

Following on from all of these there are also three (technically four films).

They are The Seven Deadly Sins the Movie: Prisoners of the Sky (2018 — it’s a side story),The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed by Light (2021 — takes place after the events of Dragon’s Judgement) and The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh: Part 1 (2021) and Part 2 (2022 — both parts take place before the events of Season 5 Four Knights of the Apocalypse).

So now you know.
