With Halloween just over, horror fans should still be taking note, as the Tarō Yuri horror action manga series Kaya Isn’t Scary is getting an anime adaptation.
The upcoming horror anime was announced earlier today by Kadokawa, along with the series’ first teaser visual and a celebration visual from the mangaka.
Fans of 2021’s Mieruko-chan or Dark Gathering may want to pay attention to this as, so far at least, it seems like it may have similar vibes.
The Kaya Isn’t Scary plot
Kaya Isn’t Scary follows kindergartener Kaya who is her class’s problem child, as all she does is get into trouble and cause problems.
She also constantly causes the other kids to cry, while they always seem to be having accidents whenever they are around her.
So bad is Kaya, her previous teacher quit after becoming neurotic due to the pressure of handling the kindergartner, and teacher Hasumi Chie has now been assigned to manage her.
A job she struggles with as Kaya jumps from dispute to dispute.
But one day, after several of the children get into accidents while playing on the swings, Chie-sensei learns something about Kaya that changes her mind about the problem child.
Nothing else has been released about the Kaya Isn’t Scary anime yet, but we’ll update you here at Baozi Buns when it is.
The manga (aka Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai or カヤちゃんはコワくない ) the upcoming anime adaptation is based on has been serialized since April, 2022, with five printed volumes also now out in Japan, and its sixth due out next week.
No word yet on an English language release but, if the anime is a hit, we may get one.
After all, VIZ Media publishing the hit Dark Gathering manga series, and I hear it’s selling like Halloween candy.
