Upcoming wuxia drama Blade of Vengeance was announced a few months ago, but information about the C-drama since then has been sparse.
Fast forward to today when Tencent Video announced via their Weibo account that Blade of Vengeance had begun filming.
They also dropped a slew of photos from the booting ceremony of the cast and crew to celebrate, with six character visuals also being released soon after.

Along with a photo of male lead Gong Jun (Word of Honor), Tencent also confirmed the staff of the political-themed C-drama:

Of course, whether you reserve the Chinese drama or not, it will still be well over a year before the 36-episode Blade of Vengeance stands a chance of premiering.

And if so many Chinese dramas lately have been any indication, it will likely be quite a bit longer than that.

The cast of Blade of Vengeance
Alongside Gong Jun, the main cast also features Wang Yu Wen (Tiger and Crane), Yu Cheng En (Coroner’s Diary), Wu Jun Ting (Moonlit Reunion), and Chen Si Yi (Love of the Divine Tree).

A quite detailed plot for the political intrigue-themed wuxia drama has been released. It looks something like this:
In the early years of the new dynasty, the imperial court appears tranquil yet seethes with underlying turmoil. Overnight, Ye Zhao (played by Gong Jun) suffers the brutal slaughter of his entire family, surviving as the sole witness.
Driven to uncover the truth and avenge this blood debt, he stakes everything on a desperate gambit: infiltrating the Embroidered Uniform Guard – the heart of imperial power – by assuming the false identity of Meng Jianqing, intending to wield the court’s own strength against his enemies.
Thus, he plunges into a perilous game of intrigue.
Powerful officials pull strings from behind the scenes, rival factions entangle like knotted threads, and assassins lurk at every turn, closing in step by step.
Amidst the flash of blades and shadows of conspiracy, the young man’s life hangs by a thread – yet fate also grants him extraordinary allies. He forges bonds with sworn brothers who would shield him with their lives, and finds mentors who entrust him with unwavering support, honing him in the crucible of ruthless strife.
Forged in blood and sacrifice, he wields his very flesh as a blade to fulfill his vengeance, tearing through the curtain of familial bloodshed.
In the empire’s darkest hour, he cleaves a path toward dawn, steadfastly advancing toward the breaking light over the sea.
