Donghua The Supreme Body Refining Master gets January 26th premiere – drops new poster

New Chinese donghua The Supreme Body Refining Master (aka Shishang Zui Qiang Lian Ti Lao Zu) finally has its premiere date set in stone — with January 26th just being announced by YOUKU this morning.
The Chinese streaming service dropped a new poster of the historical martial arts donghua’s main characters along with the premiere announcement, with protagonist Ye Cangxuan as the focus. (see below)
They also commented about The Supreme Body Refining Master’s plot:
The Nine Mystic Continent is on the brink of an apocalyptic catastrophe. To protect all living beings, the Body-Refining Ancestor Ye Cangxuan defies the divine realm’s ban and resolutely descends to the mortal world.
Watch as he forms an iron-blooded squad, ventures down perilous paths to slay demons and evils, shatters mysteries and conspiracies, and uses his unrivaled physical body to smash the shackles of fate head-on.
United against the crisis, defying the heavens themselves, they will forge a legendary tale of rewriting destiny!
Production details for The Supreme Body Refining Master
The 40-episode action adventure donghua is being animated by Shuiniu Dongman (Over Goddess), and produced by YOUKU and Xiaoming Taiji.
The animated series is adapted from Xiaoming Taiji’s (小明太极) Chinese webtoon of the same title. Its plot, while pretty typical for a martial arts donghua, still sounds like fun:
Ye Cangxuan, the unparalleled ancestor of body cultivation, challenged the gods. However, when he was just one step away from success, he unfortunately perished in the midst of a hundred thousand heavenly tribulations.
Years later, Ye Cangxuan awakened again, returning to his former homeland, Cangzhou in the mortal realm. Having been away for over 2,600 years, everything had changed. The Qingxuan Sect, which he had founded, had been destroyed by treacherous individuals, its gates dilapidated and its members at the mercy of others. His former friends and acquaintances were nowhere to be found, their fates unknown.
Now that he had returned, Ye Cangxuan decided to settle the scores of the past. He was incredibly powerful before, and he remains so now, dominating the heavens and the earth. Ultimately, after everything is settled, Ye Cangxuan will once again challenge the gods and ascend to the pinnacle of the Great Dao!
Yes, you will notice, the plot sounds very similar to 100,000 Years of Qi Refining but the animation definitely looks better.
And, if you’re looking for an idea of whether The Supreme Body Refining Master is your thing, if you’ve enjoyed similar martial arts donghua like Big Brother, the massively popular A Record Of a Mortal’s Journey To Immortality or the lesser known The Peak of True Martial Arts, chances are this one will definitely float your boat.
Check out the PV for the donghua below, and you’ll see, while its animation and art style is not at quite the same high-caliber as shows like Tales of Herding Gods or Jade Dynasty, it’s pretty decent for what it is.
Plus, animation studio Shuiniu Dongman already proved with Over Goddess that they can create a series that is decently written and fun to watch.
The first episodes of The Supreme Body Refining Master drops on Monday, January 26th at 10:00 am (Beijing Time) via YOUKU.
