The fantasy romance anime Champignon Witch was announced back in December, 2024, but we haven’t heard that much about it since.
Today, though, we just got a slew of information about the Typhoon Graphics/Qzil.la-animated series, including a teaser trailer, a beautiful visual, and the name of Luna’s voice actress.
The anime’s premiere date — January, 2026 ie: the Winter, 2026 anime season was also dropped.
Yep, sadly, we still have almost a year to wait.
Although, I must admit, getting a look at the anime’s visual style, and a quick introduction to protagonist Luna today, made me even more excited for when this one eventually drops.
Champignon Witch‘s Luna character design
Along with the trailer, which dropped via the official Champignon Witch X account, we also got a look at Luna’s character design.
That came along with a beautiful new visual showing Luna lying down on a bed of grass and flowers deep in the Black Forest.
The name of Luna’s voice actress, Haruki Shiraishi (Nao Hinata in The Shiunji Family Children), was also announced.
The Champignon Witch anime production details
The upcoming anime is based on the manga series Champignon no Majo (シャンピニオンの魔女), which is written and illustrated by Tachibana Higuchi (Gakuen Alice).
The manga currently has six volumes published but, as yet, not an official English translation.
The Champignon Witch anime adaptation is directed by Yousuke Kubo (Dahlia in Bloom), with Yuuko Kakihara (Ao no Hako) in charge of series composition, and Miki Matsumoto (Summertime Render) designing the characters.
Studios Typhoon Graphics (Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Mansion) and Qzil.la are animating the series.
As for the Champignon Witch plot, it is very fairytale-esque in nature:
Deep in the Black Forest, the black witch Luna lives in a house made of poisonous mushrooms.
Poisonous mushrooms grew wherever she touches or walks, and her breath contains poisonous spores. That is why nobody will go near her for fear they will lose their lives.
But then a dreamlike encounter suddenly comes to this lonely witch…
