The new JTBC drama Beyond the Bar, Episode 2 aired last night to a big jump in ratings versus its first episode the night before.
According to data released via Nielsen Korea, the nationwide ratings for Beyond the Bar, Episode 2 jumped over 1 percentage point from Saturday night’s already solid 3.70 percent to last night’s 4.71 percent.
The Korean drama experienced an even bigger jump from audiences in Seoul, where it leapt from 3.96 percent for Episode 1 to 5.17 percent for Episode 2.
Considering the K-drama’s ratings in South Korea are rising so fast, it is also likely Beyond the Bar will soon be on Netflix’s Top 10 Non-English TV Shows chart internationally as well.
The Beyond the Bar plot
Beyond the Bar stars Lee Jin Wook, Jung Chae Yeon, Lee Hak Joo and Jeon Hye Bin.
The drama follows lawyer and partner of Yullim Law Firm, Yun Seok Hun (played by Lee Jin Wook) who, while admired by his colleagues for his many successes, is not easy to approach due to his cut-and-dried personality.
Meanwhile, new lawyer Kang Hyo Min (Jung Chae Yeon) is also socially awkward, but confident in her abilities to win her cases. She and Yun Seok Hun are soon at each others throats, as they both have different ways of dealing with their clients’ cases.
Update: As ratings continue to rise for Beyond the Bar, Episode 4 grabbed its highest ratings yet
The next episode of Beyond the Bar (a boring title, with the Korean title Esquire much more appropriate, right?) will air on Saturday 9th on JTBC in South Korea, and on Netflix internationally.
I would say expect the ratings to climb exponentially from here, as this one is truly excellent.
