Mayo Momoyo and Itsumi Mito’s Always a Catch! light novel is getting an anime adaptation, with its first trailer, key visual, main staff and cast dropping today.
The fantasy rom-com anime also had the usual social media accounts go live, with the official Always a Catch! X account releasing its first promo pieces.
The anime is currently scheduled for a premiere during the Spring, 2026 anime season.

First Always a Catch! anime key visual
An anime’s first key visual often sets the scene for the atmosphere of the rom-com series and, in this case, we got protagonist Maria Annovazzi, showing off her knuckle dusters.
Of course, being a duke’s daughter, she is still wearing a gorgeous summer dress, complete with a huge pink bow, and with a knuckle duster comprising metal flowers.
With Maria being a martial arts expert, though, even a punch with those flowers is likely to injure.
The first Always a Catch! key visual arrived with a hint about its plot:
The martial arts lady goes on the marriage hunt♡ The one she caught is the prince!?
First Always a Catch! teaser trailer
The anime’s first trailer kicks off with First Prince Renato di Rubini informing Maria he has had their engagement… annulled.
The problem is, Maria didn’t even know they were engaged in the first place.
Then we learn Maria is studying abroad, where she has had to flee after realizing she will never find a husband in her home country, as people resent her for her martial arts strength.
But, no worries, things are about to look up, as Prince Renato is back, and this time he’s proposing marriage. Huh????!!!
Always a Catch! main cast announced
The rom-com’s main cast has also been announced (they’re not wasting any time making sure we know this anime is well into its production time, are they?).
They are:
- Yu Serizawa (Tsutsumi in Nyaight of the Living Cat) voices Maria Annovazzi
- Atsushi Tamaru (Arthur in Promise of Wizard) plays Renato di Rubini
- Saori Hayami (Yor in Spy x Family) is Aida Ametis
- Shuichiro Umeda (Alec in The Banished Court Magician Aims to Become the Strongest) voices Placido di Rubini
- Taku Yashiro (Sasuke in Shabake) plays Raimondo Cigata
Always a Catch! staff also announced
The anime is being directed by Akira Oguro (Namuamidabutsu! -Utena-), with Michiko Yokote (Call of the Night) in charge of series composition, and Isamu Suzuki (Shinobi no Ittoki) designing the characters.
Studio TROYCA (Aldnoah.Zero) is animating.
As for the Always a Catch! plot, the first volume of the original Japanese language light novel describes it in this way:
Although she is the youngest child, Maria, the daughter of a duke, was discovered to have talent and was raised as the heir, but with the birth of her younger brother, she suddenly had to step down from that role. However, all the promising sons of nobles in the country have already been booked.
If she continues like this, she will be left behind completely!
So, with the help of her distant relative, Aida, she goes to study in the neighboring Principality of Muro to look for a husband, but when she meets the first prince for the first time, he declares that he is breaking off their engagement for some reason she has no recollection of!?
A highly popular love comedy about an unconventional young lady looking for a husband.
Look out for more promo pieces being released in the next couple of months, and keep an eye out for it premiering in the Spring.
