Plot Synopsis
Love Story in the 1970s is a nostalgic period romance set in China during the 1970s. The story follows Fei Ni, an ambitious young worker at a hat factory who dreams of attending college as a way to change her fate through education.
Her middle school classmate Fang Mu Yang becomes a local hero after being injured while saving someone, and Fei Ni takes care of him, hoping her good deed might help earn a university recommendation.
When life’s pressures begin to mount, Fei Ni proposes a fake marriage to Fang Mu Yang so they can secure housing for her brother’s wedding.
After many ups and downs, the pair finally find a home and begin life together, sharing bunk beds, facing hardships, and supporting each other’s dreams. Over time, this practical arrangement deepens into genuine affection, with Fei Ni ultimately achieving her dream of higher education and Fang Mu Yang realizing his aspiration of becoming a painter.
