The long-ongoing KBS2 weekend drama Our Golden Days, Episode 49 aired last night to the series’ highest Saturday rating of its entire run as its finale is set to air tonight.
According to Nielsen Korea, Our Golden Days, Episode 49 grabbed 18.4 percent of the nationwide audience on Saturday night, which is up from the previous Saturday high of 17.7 percent it earned for Episode 43.
In Seoul, the penultimate episode of the Korean drama earned a slightly lower 17.5 percent.
Both ratings meant the KBS2 drama was not only the #1 most-watched show of the weekend but also of the entire week.
International ratings for Our Golden Days
It’s pretty apparent international audiences do not seem to have the same affinity for Korean weekend dramas as South Koreans. (I don’t. I can’t watch most of them, as the ‘amateur’ look of the sets and the ‘amateur’ feel of the acting annoys me).
That’s why, when you check international ratings for most weekend dramas, including Our Golden Days, they are usually much lower than those for K-dramas that air in the evenings.
Case in point, with one episode of the weekend drama left to air, users of My Drama List are currently rating Our Golden Days a low 7.4 out of 10.
The drama is faring even worse on IMDB, where it’s earning a 7.2 out of 10, and even on Viki, where it’s earning an 8.9 out of 10, that rating is not as high as at least 50% of other dramas on the site. (Rumor has it Viki manipulates their ratings anyway (allegedly), in order to persuade people to watch them on their platform, so there’s that).
Overall, then, while Our Golden Days has been performing exceptionally well in South Korea, it’s not doing anywhere near as well internationally.
Our Golden Days stars Jung Il Woo, Jung In Sun and Yoon Hyun Min. Look out for its final episode tonight.
