He Yu and Wang Chu Ran could be an interesting pairing
While nothing has been announced yet regarding the cast of upcoming fantasy series Tales of the Floating World (aka Fu Shen Wu Yu), news out of China says He Yu and Wang Chu Ran are currently in talks to star in the Chinese drama.
Now, I became a fan of Wang Chu Ran when she appeared as Bai Xue Lu in The Longest Promise (she was so darned pretty!), and then as Xu Qin / Meng Qin in Fireworks of My Heart – both releasing in 2023.
So, pretty much anything she stars in at this point is at least a ‘must try’ for me.
He Yu, on the other hand, I haven’t been a particular fan of his as I’ve always found him a bit bland. Even in dramas I enjoyed like Dashing Youth or The Legend of Heroes.
That changed though after his performance in Be Passionately in Love.
A drama I came to dislike immensely by its end, as how can you have a passionate love story starring an actress (Liu Hao Cun) who, reportedly, refuses to film kissing scenes?
And a drama featuring stupidly lazy writing, especially towards the end, and with various other actors miscast in their roles as well.

He Yu, though, actually won me over in his supporting role as Jiang Yu when he previously wasn’t able to as a male lead, and made me want to see him more because of it.
If he’s cast with Wang Chu Ran in Tales of the Floating World then, although it wouldn’t be at the top of my list of dramas to watch, I would be intrigued enough to give it a go, as this could be an interesting pairing. And, like I said, she’s beautiful and has decent acting skills.
The Tales of the Floating World plot
Tales of the Floating World (great title!), btw, tells the story of a demoness who falls in love with the God of Water.
When that doesn’t work out for her, thousands of years later, she finds herself running a dessert shop and hosting many strange customers to her store.
Customers who all tell stories of their lives.
So, yes, we will likely be getting an episodic drama that follows the stories of many different characters. And, as someone who just finished watching (and loved) The Miracles, I am definitely on board for that.
The historical fantasy drama is being directed by Song Xiaofei, who also directed the utterly superb Sword Snow Stride).
We’ll get back to you here at Baozi Buns as soon as the C-drama’s main cast is confirmed but, yep, I would be fine if it was Hu Ye and Wang Chu Ran, wouldn’t you?
