Oh Jung Se to play Kim Soo Hyun’s doctor in Queen of Tears?
Although the new tvN drama Queen of Tears is already on my list of Korean dramas that are definite watches in 2024, my intent became even stronger when news broke earlier today that actor Oh Jung Se is appearing in at least one episode.
According to Korean news media, Oh Jung Se has been confirmed as appearing in Queen of Tears, although there are no details yet as to how many episodes he will appear in, or what character he will play.
From photos released by tvN, however, it appears likely his role is as male lead Kim Soo Hyun’s doctor.
Why else would he be wearing a lab coat and sitting across from a Kim Soo Hyun who appears to be in some kind of distress? (see photos above and below).
All we know for sure, however, is the 47-year-old actor will be in a guest role on the new rom-com drama, and is in the exceptionally good company of Song Joong Ki, who is also making an appearance in the tvN drama some time during its 16 episode run.
Oh Jung Se reunites with It’s Okay to Not Be Okay co-star Kim Soo Hyun in Queen of Tears
Even more interesting is that Oh Jung Se was also main Queen of Tears lead Kim Soo Hyun’s co-star in the 2020 drama It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, playing his older autistic brother.
The new drama will be the first time they have acted in the same project since then.
Now that’s something to look forward to!
Oh Jung Se has a very busy 2024 ahead of him
When you think of incredibly talented Korean actors who show up in more dramas and films than most, Oh Jung Se’s name has to be close to the top of the list as he seems to be in everything nowadays.
In 2023, he played Yeom Hae Sang in the hit drama Revenant alongside Kim Tae Ri and Hong Kyung, as well as starred in the second season of Sweet Home on Netflix.
He also had a prominent guest role in Death’s Game, as well as a supporting role in the films Cobweb and Killing Romance and a starring role in Switch early in 2023.
The Korean actor’s 2024, however, looks like it may also be one of his busiest years on record as, so far, he is due to star in dramas Sweet Home 3, Mr. Plankton and Good Boy, and recently completed filming a support role in the set-to-premiere in 2025 drama When Life Gives You Tangerines.
Add in his upcoming role in Queen of Tears, and that is a lot of major projects in one year.
When does Queen of Tears premiere?
Queen of Tears stars main leads Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won, and tells the story of a married couple who suddenly find themselves in a relationship crisis.
The first episode of the Korean drama premiered earlier on tonight on tvN in South Korea, and is set to air every Saturday and Sunday evening at 21:20 (KST) through April 28th.
The first episode is also now streaming on Netflix worldwide.
Watch the official Queen of Tears trailer below although, nah, Oh Jung Se doesn’t feature in it — although you can hear his voice.
