The Villainess Inside gets anime – gorgeous Akuyaku Reijo no Naka no Hito visual also released

Akuyaku Reijo no Naka no Hito manga on ‘Manga We Want to See Animated’ list in 2025
The ongoing isekai light novel and manga adaptation Akuyaku Reijo no Naka no Hito (aka The Villainess Inside) has been announced as getting an anime adaptation.
The announcement came via the anime’s newly-opened X account, along with a gorgeous celebratory visual of protagonist and villainess Remilia Rosa Graupner.
No other details about the upcoming fantasy anime were released, except to say it is now in production.
The manga version of the story recently hit Anime Japan’s ‘Manga We Want to See Animated’ list in the 8th spot so, yep, this one should be a popular one when it eventually drops.
The Villainess Inside plot
The plot of The Villainess Inside is actually an unusual one, so it is no wonder that it currently has over 2 million copies out.
The story stars Emi, a modern-day girl, who dies but then finds herself waking up in the body of Remilia, a villainess, and her favorite character in an otome game.
Knowing how Remilia’s life quickly goes to hell due to her personality, Emi vows to make sure she is happy this time around. All is going well, until Pina, another isekai-ed person, shows up and begins to wreak havoc with the intent of completely destroying Remilia’s life. Again.
That’s when Remilia’s soul wakes up, decides the best course of events is to take revenge on Pina on behalf of Emi. And that’s where the fun begins!
Akuyaku Reijo no Naka no Hito light novel/manga details
The original light novel series written by Makiburo (Mujikaku na Tensai Shoujo wa Kizukanai) and illustrated by Mai Murasaki (I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss ) was first published on the novel publishing site Shōsetsuka ni Narō five years ago.
Japanese publisher Ichijinsha eventually bought it, and has since released two volumes with the latest dropping in Japan in February, 2024. It is now complete.
A manga adaptation has also been publishing since April, 2022.
Written by Makiburo and illustrated by Nazuna Shiraume (Kuroha to Nijisuke: Kuroki Majo no Divertimento), it has five volumes out, and with Volume 6, the final volume, due to drop in June in Japan.
The reception for both the light novel series and its manga adaptation has also been excellent, as the manga adaptation has been nominated for the Next Manga Awards for four years in a row.
Let’s hope then, once the excitement for its anime adaptation ramps up, we’ll get an English translation as well.

I have got to say, though, as isekai anime go, this one sounds like it could be quite a bit different from many of the rest. And I’m all in if it is.
