The second season of the mystery romance anime The Detective is Already Dead (aka Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru) has been postponed from the original planned release date of some time in July, 2026 to its new premiere date of October.
The anime’s new premiere date was announced via its official X account today, with a comment that production problems were causing the delay.
That information is all that was released, along with an apology to fans who were already looking forward to The Detective is Already Dead, Season 2.
And a delay that will be a big disappointment to some, of course. Especially as it has been since mid-September, 2021 when the first season of the Studio ENGI-animated series ended.
Then again, with little information released so far about the upcoming second season, anyone who is knowledgeable about the anime world could probably have guessed this one would not be dropping any time soon.
Production details for The Detective is Already Dead, Season 2
Just like Season 1, The Detective is Already Dead, Season 2 is based on the light novel series written by Nigojū and illustrated by Umibōzu.
That series currently has 13 volumes out in Japanese, and 12 in English via Yen Press.
Season 1 Director Manabu Kurihara is back to direct the anime’s second season, with Deko Akao (The Case Study of Vanitas) in charge of series composition and scripts, and Yousuke Itou (Management of a Novice Alchemist) back designing the characters.
Studio ENGI is back animating.
Where the story will go from here, only the light novel readers will know, but anime viewers will remember Episode 12 of Season 1 covering Siesta and Kimihiko attempting to kill Chameleon.
And, if your memory is as bad as mine, you can rewatch Season 1 via Crunchyroll now, in preparation for Season 2 dropping in October. (Fingers crossed!)
