While we are getting Shangri-La Frontier, Season 3 (thank you very much!), the social media accounts for the hit anime have just announced Season 3 won’t be dropping until January, 2027.
And that means it will be almost two years from the day the anime’s second season ended (March 30th, 2025) until the first new episode drops. Boo!
But, on the positive side, we did get a new Shangri-La Frontier, Season 3 key visual today featuring Sunraku (and his RL self) front and center, and with a new otherwise unknown character hovering in the background.

Here’s what we know about Shangri-La Frontier, Season 3 so far
Other than its officially confirmed premiere date, we also have production details about the upcoming third season of the video game-themed action adventure.
Season 2’s director Toshiyuki Kubooka is chief director this time around, with directorial duties now being taken over by Hiro Oki (Episode director of Season 2).
Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) is in charge of series composition, while Ayumi Kurashima is back as both Chief Animation Director and in charge of character design.
And yes, Studio C2C is also animating again.
In other words, with most of the key production staff back in their roles, it’s highly likely Season 3 will be of the same high caliber as the previous two seasons. Yay!
Season 1 of Shangri-La Frontier premiered on October 1st, 2023 and ran to March 31st, 2024 for a total of 25 episodes.
The also-25-episode Season 2 hit on October 13th, 2024 and ended on March 30th, 2025.
So, yes, the break between Season 2 and 3 is far longer than between the first two seasons but, as long as we are getting one, and it’s good quality, I am not too heart-broken, are you?

The plot of Shangri-La Frontier, Season 3 continues
The plot of Shangri-La Frontier, Season 3 will follow on from the events of Season 2 that, you will remember, ended on a cliffhanger after pumpkin-head-wearing protagonist Rakuro (aka Sunraku) is supposed to play in the first GGC match, but his teammate, professional gamer Katzo, is pulled away from the match to play in another championship supported by one of his sponsors.
That means Rakuro and the rest of the Nitro Squad team have to hope they can hold off their competition in time for Katzo to return to the GCC match and win his match.
As it turns out, things aren’t looking good.
Meanwhile, while we wait for Season 3 of the anime to drop, the first two seasons of Shangri-La Frontier are still streaming on Crunchyroll.
Catch up if you’re not there yet before next January.
