As a fan of Park Bo Gum since his superb performance in the 2019 drama series Encounter, I am always on the lookout for a new show the now-30-year-old actor might be starring in.
This week, that wait is apparently over as Korean news media has confirmed Park Bo Gum will be starring in the upcoming JTBC drama Good Boy alongside Kim So Hyun (My Lovely Liar), and another of my favorite Korean actors Oh Jung Se (Revenant).
The mystery comedy drama is being written by Lee Dae Il (Chief of Staff), and directed by Shim Na Yeon (The Good Bad Mother).
What is the plot of the JTBC drama Good Boy?
With tags for Good Boy including Co-workers’ Relationship, Former Athlete Female Lead, Former Athlete Male Lead, Police Officer Female Lead, Police Officer Male Lead, Determined Male Lead, Straightforward Female Lead, Sense Of Justice, Teamwork, Injustice — it appears the Korean drama may offer something for everyone.
As for the actual plot, Good Boy follows several Olympic medalists who join the police department through a special recruitment program.
The group forms an ‘Olympic Avengers’ team, which allows them to use the skills they used when training to become elite athletes — but, in this case, use them to fight and solve crime.
They just may not follow the same type of vigorous rules and regulations they were forced to when they were elite athletes.
Park Bo Gum will play protagonist Yoon Dong Ju, an Olympic gold medalist who joins the Special Violent Crime Unit, and then uses his fighting skills to stop the worst examples of the criminal element.
Meanwhile, Ji Han Na (Kim So Hyun), a former Gold medalist in shooting, suffers through a shocking incident and quits shooting to become a police officer.
Good Boy will be the second drama Park Bo Gum stars in in 2024, as he is already cast in You Have Done Well alongside UI, Moon So Ri and Park Hae Joon.
Both dramas will be the first in four years for the Korean actor and singer, since his role as Sa Hye Joon in Record of Youth in 2020.
Kim So Hyun, on the other hand, has been busy in the last couple of years in River Where the Moon Rises, Love Alarm 2 and last year’s popular drama My Lovely Liar.
According to Naver, Good Boy is slated to premiere some time in the second half of 2024.
