We can only hope the long-awaited wuxia drama The Immortal Ascension (凡人修仙传) is well on its way to premiere after another poster was released for the fantasy romance drama earlier today.
A message from YOUKU that arrived along with the poster also hints at “coming soon” so, fingers crossed, eh?

So, no, we still don’t have any update on when The Immortal Ascension will premiere, but at least new promo visuals wet the appetite, right?
And with a new trailer, and another visual also dropping today, it does appear the Chinese drama is on its way soon.
Production details for The Immortal Ascension
It also appears The Immortal Ascension may be one of those Chinese dramas that has had post-production problems.
After all, filming on it wrapped up in December, 2023 after an almost 6-month filming time and yet, well over 18 months later, we still don’t have any definite premiere date.
Originally scheduled to be 40 episodes, the Chinese drama was also dropped to 38 episodes in August, 2024, followed by a further reduction to 34 episodes last November.
However, it has also been announced some episodes are up to an hour in length, so that drastic cutting of scenes may not be as bad as we may expect. Fingers crossed.
Live-action C-drama The Immortal Ascension passes 3 million reservations
The plot of The Immortal Ascension goes like this:
The drama tells the story of an ordinary poor boy from a mountain village, Han Li (played by Yang Yang), who accidentally entered a small sect in the underworld.
Although his qualifications were mediocre, he relied on his own efforts and reasonable calculations to finally cultivate into an immortal.
And yes, if you’re familiar with the massively successful Chinese donghua A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality, which has currently been watched more than 3.2 billion times, the upcoming drama is based on the same novel — “A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality” (凡人修仙传) by Wang Yu (忘语).
