Now the story and the acting made me cry just watching the trailer, so you can only guess how much crying I will be doing once the movie is released.
That movie by the way is the new Netflix film My Name is Loh Kiwan, and its trailer is quite the attention grabber.
Netflix released the My Name is Lohan trailer today along with a poster for the film (see below).
And let’s just say, if you have any interest in North Korea or what it must be like to be a refugee from that cut off country — alone, afraid and with little hope — from the trailer alone My Name is Loh Kiwan looks like required viewing.
If star Song Joong Ki’s performance in the film is as good as the snippets in the trailer suggest, and the story is as well-written as it appears, the film itself could also be a masterpiece.
What is the plot of My Name is Loh Kiwan?
My Name is Loh Kiwan is based on the novel “Ro Ki Waneul Mannatda” (로기완을 만났다) by Jo Hae Jin (조해진).
As the title suggests, the Korean film tells the story of protagonist Loh Kiwan (played by Song Joong Ki).
A so-called “defector” from North Korea (often called a “new settler in South Korea), who manages to escape the country and find his way to Belgium.
Once there, he finds life immeasurably difficult, not the least because he has no money and nowhere to live, but also because he is in a strange culture where he knows nobody and where nothing makes sense.
That is, until he meets a woman called Marie (Choi Sung Eun), who seems to have no direction in life.
Together, the two begin to navigate what has been a difficult life for both of them so far while, along the way, falling in love.
My Name is Loh Kiwan is due to release internationally on Netflix on March 1st, with the streaming platform recommending it for a mature audience.
It also features the stellar supporting cast of Jo Han Chul, Kim Sung Ryung, Lee Il Hwa, Seo Hyun Woo and Lee Sang Hee.
