8.5 out of 10 is an excellent rating on Douban – especially for a serious, war-themed drama
New Chinese war-themed drama Man’s Inhumanity to Man (aka 反人类暴行 or Crimes Against Humanity) has debuted on Douban this week with an excellent preliminary rating.
According to YOUKU, Man’s Inhumanity to Man started off its rating journey on Douban on Saturday with a very high rating of 8.5 out of 10.
The drama was also reviewed by more than 12,500 people on the platform, which is a solid number for a war-themed drama on the review website.
YOUKU announced the Douban rating this morning and commented about the importance of the drama — a C-drama that tells the story of what happened to ordinary Chinese people living in Harbin during the Japanese invasion of China, as the Japanese performed human rights-violating biological and chemical warfare experiments on them.
The streaming service reminded viewers how important of a drama Man’s Inhumanity to Man is with this message:
The alarm bells of history continue to ring; the truth needs to be remembered. Thank you all for your support and recognition. The more people who see this, the more witnesses there will be.
No one can remain unmoved by this “living history” of crimes against humanity. Every scene is delicate and moving, faithfully recreating history with meticulous detail.
This highly-praised historical drama, recommended by many online, is available on YOUKU! We invite everyone to watch it!
Of course, just because the people watching Man’s Inhumanity to Man and reviewing it on Douban are Chinese, that does not mean they are massively more intelligent than people anywhere else as you will see as many stupid comments about the C-drama from Chinese viewers using Douban as you would from westerners on any western platform.
That being said, the majority of comments left on Douban about Man’s Inhumanity to Man are still positive, with thousands of people recommending the C-drama as a ‘must watch’.
Even if it does have some flaws, both in its direction and in its storytelling.
Man’s Inhumanity to Man is directed by Lao Suan (Cloud Prison), stars Jiang Qi Lin, Zhang Yu, Yin Zheng, Lan Xi Ya and Hang Jing.
It is streaming on YOUKU and, after several days of no English subtitles, finally has AI-generated English subs.
No, they are not perfect, but for such an important drama, they are better than nothing.
If you don’t have a YOUKU subscription, you can also watch Man’s Inhumanity to Man on YOUKU’s YouTube channel, where it is also being released with AI-generated subs.
And yes, as someone who is now knees-deep into this superbly written and performed, although truly awful and tragic drama, it is a 1,000 percent ‘recommend’ from me.
