Dynamite Kiss Ep 5 ratings fall after all-time high for Ep 4 – but now #2 on Netflix Top 10

The K-drama’s audience falls in South Korea
Even though I personally dropped Dynamite Kiss after Episode 1 (sorry, while I love the main leads, the K-drama is just not my thing), I am still surprised the Korean drama is not earning higher ratings in South Korea than it is.
Especially as international viewers have been rating the drama very high since it premiered on November 12th.
Last night, for instance, even though the fourth episode of Dynamite Kiss earned the K-drama’s highest nationwide and Seoul ratings so far (6.3 percent/6.5 percent), Dynamite Kiss, Episode 5 aired to a small decrease in its ratings in both regions.
According to Nielsen Korea, Dynamite Kiss, Episode 5 earned 5.9 percent from nationwide viewers. So, a fall of 0.4 percent versus its previous episode.
The Korean rom-com also experienced a similar audience share decrease in Seoul, earning 6.2 percent of that region’s viewership, or a fall of 0.30 percent.
Of course, neither ratings decrease is catastrophic, as the Korean drama is still earning very solid ratings.
It’s just that with the constant talk about both the Dynamite Kiss writing and the performances of its two leads by hordes of international viewers, I would have expected Korean viewers to be similarly obsessed.
Dynamite Kiss does still have nine more episodes to air, though — including Episode 6, which airs/streams later on tonight — so there is still plenty of time for it to skyrocket.
International viewers and their Dynamite Kiss ratings
International ratings, by the way, have been exceptionally good since the drama premiered, with those on My Drama List currently at 8.5 out of 10, which is a high rating for that website.
IMDB viewers are also still rating the K-drama with a very solid 8.2 out of 10. Again, a good rating for a site that is often populated by trolls.
The Korean drama’s biggest success, however, is on Netflix where it streams internationally.
On that platform, it has currently risen to the #2 spot on the Top 10 Non-English TV Shows chart from last week’s #3.
Dynamite Kiss got there by being viewed 6.4 million times for a total of 28.9 million hours, and with only the hit Japanese drama, Last Samurai Standing, being able to best it.
Staff and cast of Dynamite Kiss
The Korean drama is directed by Kim Jae Hyun, who also directed One Dollar Lawyer, and written by Ha Yoon Ah (Mystic Pop-Up Bar).
It stars Jang Ki Yong (star of The Atypical Family) and Ahn Eun Jin (female lead in the hit historical drama My Dearest).
It also features an excellent supporting cast, including Kim Mu Jun, Woo Da Vi, Choi Kwang Il and Nam Gi Ae, and with Kim Kwang Gyu, Lee Seo Jin, and Park Yong U making guest appearances.
Dynamite Kiss is currently scheduled to air/stream until December 29th, 2025.
