Affinity production details
The Chinese romance drama is directed by Chen Jia Jie (Embrace in the Dark Night), and with a plot described by Baidu Baike like this.
In 2051, a space exploration robot discovers an object containing a record of a love story between a girl named Wu Nongyu and a sociopathic madman named Xie Xinxu, from an Earth-like civilization on a planet designated as Planet Y.
Wu Nongyu, a 23-year-old second-year graduate student in biological genetic engineering, went to a crime scene with her brother Wu Siyuan five years prior, where she crossed paths with Xie Xinxu, a man who was suspected of being the murderer and had been diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder.
Her body seemed to possess a natural, inexplicable attraction to him; a single glance was enough to drive him mad with the desire to possess her.
Five years later, in order to win Wu Nongyu’s affection, Xie Xinxu disguises himself as a cold and aloof medical professor, meticulously plotting to get close to her and manipulate her into falling in love with him. A madman with naturally weak empathy skills gradually learning to understand normal human emotions through his daily interactions with the bright and sunny girl!
Wu Nongyu also unexpectedly discovers a secret about her own body. She is different from ordinary people as she has carried the A virus since birth, which naturally creates a strong instinctive attraction to people carrying another subtype, the B virus, and Xie Xinxu happens to be one of those carrying the B virus.
Unwilling to be bound together for life solely by this physical attraction, the two embark on a journey together to find a way to eliminate the viruses.
Episodes 1 through 6 of Affinity are streaming on YOUKU now. Give it a shot as it at least sounds more unique than the typical romance series we get coming out of China, doesn’t it?
