Chainsaw Man author’s Look Back film gets sweet trailer and key visual featuring Fujino and Kyomoto

Upcoming anime film Look Back has received its first trailer today.
The full-length anime is based on Chainsaw Man author Tatsuki Fujimoto’s one-shot manga of the same name, and alongside the trailer we also got a beautifully drawn key visual.
Both the Look Back trailer and the new Look Back key visual (below) feature aspiring mangakas Ayumu Fujino and Kyomoto, with the heart-warming story being just about as far from the gory action fantasy anime series as it’s possible to get.
Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Look Back plot
In Look Back, we meet fourth-graders Ayumu Fujino and Kyomoto.
Fujino is the star artist of her class, as she draws four-panel manga for her school newspaper that other people love.

One day she is asked to allow a student who never comes to school, Kyomoto, to use one of her newspaper slots, with the teacher’s idea being it may persuade her to attend school and interact with other students.
But, when Kyomoto’s drawings are seen to be just as good as Fujino’s, Fujino becomes incredibly jealous.
Even more so as she realizes, no matter how hard she tries, Kyomoto’s manga just seems to be better than hers. At that point Fujino stops drawing manga out of jealousy.
Graduation rolls around, and Fujino is asked to deliver Kyomoto’s graduation certificate to her.
But, when the two meet and Fujino learns, while Kyomoto is brilliant at drawing her writing is below par, it becomes obvious the two should probably be working on their manga together.
The just-released Look Back key visual (see above) shows Fujino and Kyomoto excitedly working on manga together, while the touching first Look Back trailer (watch below) gives us a quick overview of the plot and what we can expect.
The Look Back anime film cast and staff
First-time voice actors Yuumi Kawai and Mizuki Yoshida play Fujimo and Kymoto, which gives me the idea director, character designer and screenplay writer Kiyotaka Oshiyama wanted everything about the upcoming anime film to feel fresh and innocent.
Just like the film’s plot.
Haruka Nakamura (Trigun Stampede theme songs) is composing the film’s soundtrack.
New animation studio Studio DURIAN (produced the music video for the Eve and suis’ song ‘Heikousen‘).
Look Back is scheduled to open in Japan on June 28th, 2024.
