Blossoms of Power starring Meng Ziyi and He Yu now filming – Cdrama about another royal with a secret identity

New Cdrama Blossoms of Power began filming early last month and, as Chinese historical romances go, this one sounds interesting.
The planned 36-episode Cdrama stars Meng Ziyi (loved her in Blossom, and in her supporting role in the ongoing Love in Pavilion), and He Yu (fabulous in Dashing Youth, and in his recent guest role in Blossom) in the main roles.
The period drama is adapted from the Chinese novel Bai Hua Sa, with a plot that goes like this:
Crown Prince Xiao Huayong (played by He Yu), the heir apparent of the Eastern Palace, appears frail and sickly on the surface but is in fact a man of profound wisdom and strategy.
Poisoned at the age of six, he has since lived in cautious disguise, secretly investigating his enemies while identifying and nurturing talented individuals to infuse new vitality into the imperial court.
Princess Zhaoning, Shen Xihe (played by Meng Ziyi), grew up in the Northwest, deeply connected to the common people. She sees it as her duty to defend the nation’s borders and is also a master perfumer.
When she arrives in the capital under imperial decree for a political marriage, Xiao Huayong expresses his desire to wed her.
Together, they fight against corruption, uphold justice, and become each other’s most cherished soulmate.
Their love story blossoms beautifully as they safeguard a peaceful and prosperous era for the realm.
And yep, being someone who loves these sorts of Chinese dramas featuring people whose real identity is far more interesting than it first seems, Blossoms of Power is definitely now on my list of Must Watch Chinese Dramas.
Especially as I have had such good luck recently with other ‘Blossom’ dramas Blossom, In Blossom and Meet You at the Blossom.

The Chinese drama stars main leads Menz Zi Ye and He Yu, with an excellent supporting cast that includes Fan Shuai Qi (loved her in Guardians of the Dafeng), Lai Wei Ming (Fangs of Fortune), Zhao Zhi Wei (Live Surgery Room), Gao Wei Guang (Love and Sword), Chen He Yi (The Princess Royal), and Yumiko Cheng (Blossom).

The Cdrama is being directed by Zhong Qing (In Blossom — fabulous drama!),
They have also, reportedly, spent a small fortune on the costumes and sets, with 1,286 costumes meticulously arranged by color palette, 7 battle robes adorned with authentic colored glaze pieces, and an incense burner engraved with hidden dragon motifs.

So obsessive has been the attention to detail, the “Hundred Flowers Decree” token, which was crafted by a cultural heritage artisan, took over 100,000 strikes to perfect — and is so perfect in detail, it is being donated to a museum after filming is complete.
Now that’s what I love about Chinese dramas — how authentic every little detail looks.

Some Chinese fans, however, aren’t too thrilled with the way the plot of Blossoms of Power has changed from its original female-centric story to one that is now male-centric.
Can’t have everything though, right?
Blossoms of Power is currently scheduled to premiere some time in 2026 on Tencent in China, and on WeTV internationally.
