New Lee Je Hoon And Koo Kyo Hwan film Escape just hit 1 million moviegoers only a few days after it premiered.
In response, distributor MEGABOX Plus M has released two new Escape posters featuring the film’s stars Lee Je Hoon And Koo Kyo Hwan. (via Kpop Statistics on X)
The first has Lee Je Hoon as Sergeant Lim Gyu Nam, filthy, sweat-covered and slightly injured, staring into the crosshairs of a weapon.
The second new Escape poster is of actor Koo Kyo Hwan as State Security soldier Major Li Hyeon Sang, looking through the gun sight that is now trained on Gyu Nam.
Lim Gyu Nam’s poster says ‘Even if I die, I will be the one to die, and even if I live, I will be the one to live’, suggesting the former military sergeant will do everything he can to escape North Korea, and take the responsibility for anything that happens to him.
As for Li Hyeon Sang, his poster proves he will carry out his state-sanctioned job no matter what it takes, with the tagline ‘No one will escape from here alive‘.
What is the Escape plot?
The new South Korean action adventure film stars the aforementioned Lee Je Hoon (Taxi Driver) and Koo Kyo Hwan (Escape from Mogadishu), alongside Hong Xa Bin, Seo Hyun Woo, Lee Sung Wook, Jung Joon Won and Park Yoon Hee.
The film (aka 탈주 in Korean) also guest stars Song Kang, Esom, Lee Ho Jung, Hyun Ji Shin, Jang Young Nam and Bae Cheol Soo.
Escape tells the story of soon-to-be-discharged Sargeant Lim Gyu Nam (Lee Je Hoon) who has decided, after 10 years of serving North Korea, his future lies in freedom in South Korea.
Things go haywire, however, when another soldier Kim Dong Hyuk (Hong Xa Bin) discovers his plan and tries to escape first.
Gyu Nam tries to stop him, but is arrested as a deserter.
It is then Major Li Hyeon Sang (Koo Kyo Hwan) of the State Security Ministry, a childhood friend of Gyu Nam, makes him into a hero and promotes him.
After Gyu Nam escapes himself, however, Hyeon Sang then goes into full pursuit mode. Determined to prevent him from reaching South Korea at all costs.
As you might expect, Escape is a film about choosing your own path in life, triumph over adversity and the power of a person’s will to survive.
The South Korea film released in country on July 3rd.
It opened in the United States in select theaters on July 5th.
