The new JTBC drama My Sweet Mobster premiered last night to a promising start as its first ratings were higher than its predecessor Frankly Speaking, which aired in the same time slot and garnered 1.92 percent of the audience share for its first episode. (1.89 percent in Seoul)
According to Nielsen Korea, however, My Sweet Mobster, Episode 1 grabbed a higher 2.29 percent nationwide, and a 2.20 percent from audiences in Seoul.
Where it goes from here nobody knows but, with solid first episode ratings like that, and with the stellar cast of Uhm Tae Goo (Hometown), Han Sun Hwa (My Contracted Husband, Mr Oh) and Kwon Yul (currently also starring in Connection), it could very well be a hit.
My Sweet Mobster tells the story of Seo Ji Hwan (played by Uhm Tae Goo), a former gangster who has dismantled his criminal organization and is now spending his time destroying criminal organizations and helping ex-convicts turn their lives around.
While at a nightclub looking for a gangster, he bumps into Eun Ha (Han Sun Hwa), a children’s content creator who impersonates a police officer when trouble breaks out at the club.
Of course, it isn’t long before their feelings for each other are far different than you might expect between an ex-gangster and a beloved children’s entertainment star.
My Sweet Mobster airs every Wednesday and Thursday evening on JTBC through August 1st.
And yes, if you haven’t yet watched the first episode of the new comedy romance drama, I say give it a try as it’s well-written so far, solidly acted, very nice to see Uhm Tae Goo in a main role (his deep voice is amazing!), and funny in that quirky, slapstick Korean way many of us like as well as quite touching.
