After earning its lowest ever rating for its previous episode, the Korean fantasy period drama Love Song for Illusion is heading back up in the national TV ratings in South Korea.
According to new data from Nielsen Korea, Love Song for Illusion, Episode 6 saw a .50 percent increase from the K-drama’s previous episode, going from Episode 5’s nationwide rating of 2.0 percent to 2.50 percent for Episode 6.
With last night’s rating then, it appears the KBS2 drama may be on its way to more stable ratings after premiering with 4.3 percent of the audience share for its first episode, only to have dropped to a 2.0 percent share by Episode 5.
After all, once a drama bottoms out, a good indicator of its future success is if it remains bottomed out or starts to rise again.
With Love Song for Illusion, Episode 6 experiencing a significant rise, however, it is more likely the drama’s ratings will rise from here rather than stay at Episode 5’s lowest ever.
With the Korean drama’s well-written plot (it’s a fantasy drama, so there will always be things that seem “unbelievable”) as well as excellent performances by leads Park Ji Hoon and Hong Ye Ji, honestly, it was only a matter of time.
Love Song for Illusion ratings outside Korea
Meanwhile, international viewers of the K-drama are still giving Love Song for Illusion very strong ratings on various platforms.
On one ratings website, almost 9,000 people are rating the period drama with a strong 8.2 out of 10, while on another it is currently being scored with an 8.1 out of 10.
The Korean drama’s highest international rating though is on Viki, where the Park Ji Hoon-led drama is being streamed for that platform’s international subscribers.
Almost 1,000 Viki users are rating Love Song for Illusion with a very high 9.5 out of 10 so far.
The next episode of Love Song for Illusion will air on KBS2 at 22:10 (KST) tonight, with Viki streaming it for its international viewers.
Let’s see how it scores in the ratings after tonight, and whether the drama is on the way back up or destined to fall back again.
Fingers crossed it will be the former.
