I was pretty late to the Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty party, only watching the first two seasons of the superb Chinese historical mystery drama a few months ago.
That means, unlike people who watched both seasons when they premiered, my wait for the upcoming Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty 3: To Changan since I viewed Season 2’s final episode will be a little less.
Yay! Because this one turned out to be an absolute banger of a historical mystery series with fascinating characters, and a total of 76 episodes within the two seasons that flew by.

That being said, sadly, as Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty 3: To Changan only finished filming on May 31st, 2025, me and everyone else is probably still out for a long wait, with a 2026 premiere likely the earliest.
Although, heads up ya’ll… there is some positive news, as the drama’s distribution license was already been issued on September 17th and that generally means a series will usually premier during an average time frame of about 1 to 4 months later. Fingers crossed, eh?
Meanwhile, and thankfully, iQIYI obviously understands how desperate viewers are to see what happens next as our five intrepid investigators head back to Changan.
So, along with a pretty poster to celebrate China’s Mid-Autumn Festival early last month, today we also got eight character stills.

The Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty 3: To Changan character stills include photos of all five very popular leads, as well as photos of Yue Li Na as the truly awful Princess Taiping, Liu Zhi Yang as the Emperor, and Anson Shi as Xue Huan – a character I find just as annoying as Taiping, but you can’t have everything, eh?

The eight Season 3 character stills also came with a message from iQIYI:
#Tales of the Tang Dynasty: Chang’an#
Individual character stills released!
The storm brews again, everyone returns to Chang’an! Danger lurks within the bustling city of Chang’an. How will they dispel the clouds and turn the tide in this perilous situation? Another mysterious case unfolds; await their arrival in Chang’an.
They also reminded fans the third season of Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty is now available to pre-order on iQIYI in China (not on international iQIYI as yet).
We’ll keep you up-to-date here at Baozi Buns as more info about the Chinese dramas eventual release date hits. Now wouldn’t it be awesome if it was this month? (Update: The Cdrama’s premiere date has been announced as November 8th — Yay, freaking yay, eh?!)
