Toritsukare Otoko anime film announced with visual/trailer featuring quirky art style

When it comes to anime film’s with an art style you will either love or absolutely detest, there probably hasn’t been one out in a while more appropriate than the just-announced Toritsukare Otoko.
Toritsukare Otoko (Obsessed Man) is an upcoming full-length musical anime film based on the 2001 novel of the same title by Japanese author Shinji Ishii’s.
Its anime adaptation was announced earlier today via a new X account, along with a quirky visual featuring protagonist Giuseppe and Pechka the girl he falls in love with, and a trailer. (Watch below)
The visual, and the accompanying short trailer show off the quirky, extremely angular but very cool art style that, while beautifully unique, may not be to everyone’s taste. (It is to mine!)
We also get a snippet of the type of music we are likely to enjoy.
What is the plot of Toritsukare Otoko?
The musical anime film will follow Giuseppe, a man who is known by his neighbors as the ‘Obsessed Man’, as he often becomes interested in one particular thing at a time and then cannot think, or talk, about anything else.
For instance, he learns the mouse language after befriending a mouse called Cielo, obsesses over collecting and cataloguing insects, and even becomes enthralled with detective work.
But, one day, Giuseppe meets Pechka, a balloon seller and a woman with so much sadness in her heart she can only keep him at arm’s length.
That is when, rather than give up, Giuseppe decides to ask Cielo to help him both get closer to Pechka, while also making her life happier.
He does so by secretly using the many things he used to obsess over.
Toritsukare Otoko production details
The animated film is being directed by Wataru Takahashi (Crayon Shin-chan movies), with Naoyuki Miura writing the screenplay, and Masatsugu Arakawa (Windy Tales) in charge of character design.
Shin-Ei Animation (Mr. Villain’s Day Off) is animating the film, with Bandai Namco distributing.
